He should have been fired 5 years ago, get overt it!
Sullivan should coach a team in a senior league so he won't have to worry about playing younger guys.
"We want a coach who will play young players over the veterans not named Sidney Crosby. We want young players to play as much as possible to prepare them for the 2027 season when we next compete."
Quinn also led one of the leagues worst defenses so I wouldn't mind him as an assistant but not the head coach.
A big no on quin.
The Pens need some bigger, tougher players especially on defense
Dubas wants a coach who he can control. Period
I agree with the clock burning problem.
The Sullivan firing is way overdue
If Dubas wants to do this right, Quinn is NOT the pick. With that said, the new coach would be wise to keep Quinn on the Penguins staff.
Is it just coincidence that Hollander comes back right after Sullivan is gone?
DK really, really, really likes the word really.
All Swedish players are defensively responsible???
May I introduce you to EK65?
Cue the music, it's Disco Dan time!
I agree DK. Still at a wait and see mode. Hope and thoughts of what's next. Thank you DK
I'm very excited about this draft. I honestly think our pick should be Kashawn Aitcheson. He's Brooks Orpik 2.0, with a great shot as well. More importantly, he's a physical leader, and tone-setter. Those are things that you just can't teach, and are things that this team are in desperate need of.
DK I was pondering yesterday when Tocchet left the Canucks. Do you think he left them because he wants behind the Pens bench again? Do you think he'd be the right guy for the job? Maybe the timing was coincidential, but as someone who has had the utmost success here before as an assistant and now a Jack Adams winner, I think he could be high on their list if not at the top.
no not Quinn
It's my guess, that Dubas will name himself head coach, just like he did with his position of General manager. It was HIS job to supply Sullivan with players capable of winning, and when he failed at that, Sullivan had to go. How many years of him not doing HIS job, before he is let go? I'm 70, and I used to be a HUGE fan of all Pittsburgh pro sports, but the Pirates fans keep going to games when they keep having losing seasons, year after year, and the Steeler's fans seem completely content with a non-losing season and of course, when things don't go as the top brass feel they should on the Penguins, THEY never take responsibility, it's the coach that goes. Maybe the Pirates and Steelers need to follow on this method of running their organizations. It couldn't hurt.
Sully brought the right system and arrived as a crops of WBS kids could support lineup. Overtime the avoidance of adding some thump made this team easier to play in the playoffs.
I would prefer not to see on of the old retreats like Boudreau or Torts…. Caps made a nice younger call at coach. Pens need a similar mindset.
We need a young, adaptive, coach. Preferably, a young assistant from a playoff team.
I don’t think the HC position is an attractive one to good established coaches, so I think it will be filled by a coach with something to “prove” so to speak. European or college coach that wants to break into the NHL, or possibly a coaching retread that is on his “last chance” will probably attract the most interest.
That’s a huge assumption to think these young guys would just get handed a role. There’s been no evidence of that from the prospects/younger group of players.
You just couldn't help yourself with that Ikea joke at the very end. I like that
DK – Do you think if Mitch Marner became available it would cause Dubas to re-think his plans?
So what's the elevator pitch to get a coach to come here? "We need you to manage the egos of aging stars, while also developing prospects to the fullest, while not being too good so we get a top 5 pick. And oh yeah, you're only getting 3 years max so when things may start to look up your contract won't be renewed so we can get someone with proven results and playoff experience. Also by the way, your record is gonna suck so you'll have to go back to the minors/Europe to be a head coach again"
With that kind of set up you'll only get a desperate for money yes man or someone so naive they don't know any better. Either way, not a good premise to hire someone. I wanted Sullivan gone too but I don't think there's going to be any relief or easy answers when the next coach comes.
I think they need someone with at least AHL coaching experience if not NHL head coaching experience, not sure if you can hire someone from college or Europe and have it work out well unless they recently retired from playing in the league like Martin St. Louis did.
Thanks for the great coverage!
Safe travels n'at!
✌❤🤘
You forgot to mention that the Penguins will be playing two games in Stockholm in November! I'll be at one of those games.
I love Sam Hallam. Would take him in a second
