Meier literally purposefully ran into him and don't know how that is not obvious. He had the opportunity to swerve away but made sure to go 4 feet deep into the blue paint and give a nice little push with his left arm when stopping
The canes abolsutely needed Freddy for a deep run so yes the goalie is very important to the canes too….
Slavin’s goal was filthy. 😳
NOT a fan of all of the DraftKings CRAP
As a Canes fan, I think Meier didn't do enough to stop running into the goalie. I think he clearly intended to at least make contact with Freddie, but I'm biased; that said, I still don't understand how there wasn't even a minor penalty as a result. The result of that play was the Devils knocking the better goalie in the series out of the game and not getting any sort of punishment at all. That doesn't make sense to me, especially with how the refs initially called a penalty but later retracted it.
Rod the Clod sucks
Shannon good take on the Canes goaltending, some fans wanted Kocheckov in and Anderson out to save Anderson for game 5. Kocheckov is a good goalie but I would not be surprised to see Anderson come back in the next round. Another few items in Canes favor is the penalty kill and a reasonably good powerplay in the playoffs and Svechnikov and Aho shoewing up on the score sheets. Jankowski stepped in nicely as well.
Funny to hear Canes fans bitching about a goalie interference considering how much they got away with the rest of this series. Also, Svechnekov clearly turns Timo’s legs to where he can’t slow like he was going to, and Anderson flopped hard.
What's a league gotta do to protect goalies these days? Maybe a collision in the crease not resulting from a push garners a auto-major? I think anyone could argue that someone rushing the net doesn't really want to collide with a goalie but it sure does bring on a lot of "accidents." And if a goalie is injured, well, you can't un-ring a bell.
Svechnikov is having a nice post-season. All of the series are hard-hitting this year. They should go back to playing like they did in the Four Nations Tourney so fewer players get injured.
Canes in 5, let’s go!!!
Canes Reverse Retro jersey is my favorite !
It was weird rooting against the Canes last game because I wanted to see a game 5. I'm glad they pulled off the win tonight and I'm excited for us to bring our friend to his first ever playoff game on Tuesday 😀 hopefully they can close out the series
Noesen forgot he was on the Devils, cost us two goals, Markstrom blows too
As a Canes fan, I understand why others are angry but there was genuinely 0 intent from Meier there. Svech didnt push him considerably either, it was just a freak accident due to momentum and Meier trying to regain balance that caused Freddie to get hurt. I really really hope he’s okay, we’re not gonna go far without him based on his play so far
Is someone gonna make a song, "The Ref Sucks!"? This is w hockey theme in mind!
Series over.
I was at Game #3 on Friday night and at Game #4 today. Complete BS that Timo Meire "purposely ran into the goalie." Thankfully the penalty was reviewed and reversed. But it did not matter. The Canes wanted it more today. The Devils hardly showed up to play even when fighting for survival. The Devils did not want it enough today. Devils need a lot more scoring fire power. Very frustrating. I was very optimistic after the Devils uplifting Game #3 victory. And the Devils put out this dreck today. It is never helpful to give up a goal in the first minute of the game especially when you are fighting for survival. I could not believe my eyes when Noesen failed to simply clear the puck out of the zone and gave up a brutal turnover to Slavin leading to the second Canes goal. Hopefully the Devils show up for Game #5 this Tuesday and stun everyone. What a brutal uphill climb
Slavin is my guy. I have never yelled louder than when he scored tonight
I didn't like the fact that if had of gone straight and just clipped Andersen it wouldn't have really been a thing IMO, but when he leaned in and "jumped" into Andersen's chest that looked like some kind of penalty, especially with knocking him into the post and causing a concussion or knee injury.
Tuesday night should be spicy because of the Andersen hit. Not sure if I'll go, because I think I'd rather double dip against Washington.
If I’m a hurricane I’m bumping markstrom every single save he makes
don’t get me wrong, I hate that anderson is out once again , but I’m honestly not too worried about koch and I think he’s great. now we just can’t fumble game 5. Go canes!
Slavin is just incredible. That steal and one handed move finished off with a top corner snipe over the shoulder. Laser beam. What a stud!
So they just killed Carolina’s goalie and didn’t get a penalty, lol
In what world is coming in hot, not being pushed or tripped, and hip checking a goalie in the face not going to be a penalty?
I'm not going to claim that Meier did it intentionally, but he sure as hell didn't do anything to avoid it.
That Slavin goal was awesome, he's so underrated offensively.
Hitting matters.
Canes fan here, while I don't think Timo's play was intentional, I do think it's a minor penalty. He was rushing into the blue paint, svech wasn't pushing him in, and he ran into Freddie, should have been a 2 min minor.
Kochetkov had a tough stretch but he started I think 47 games this year so I'm not on board with the Canes doomers about him coming in.
Hopefully Anderson is okay. He's been good lately. But, I mean…this is what happens with him.
Thats awesome for slavin, hes so good, seeing him n faber paired at 4 nations was incredible to watch and such a treat for everyone to see it.
As a Devils fan. Couple of things. Why Keefe doesn't start Casey, don't understand whatsoever. If it's defensive issues, fine but we can't fucking score either, so.
And honestly, I know we're down a bunch of players but our bottom 6 is trash. And certain guys (meier, mercer) aren't doing much either.
A lot of retooling needs to be done during the offseason
As far as Meier's "intent," dirtbags like him have a way of hiding their intent while also hurting other players. It's not honorable. Same crap the Tkachuks and guys like Marchand, etc. do. I'm glad my team doesn't have any players like that. I'd rather lose than win with guys like that on my team. No respect for that.
Meier shouldered his chin
The Meier bump…let's just say I'm glad I'm not a ref. I could see that having gone either way, and I say that as a Canes fan. What we're far far FAR more worried about is how Freddie is, and if he'll still be so blistering hot when (not if dangit) he comes back.
As the Canes announcers so aptly put it, Andrei Svechnikov joins Andrei Svechnikov as the only Carolina Hurricanes to have post-season hat tricks.
Why does intent matter on the Meier hit? If i drive drunk and run someone over do i get off since I didn't mean to do that?
I mean, when the nj netminder who attempted to slash Svechnikov not once (in which he injured his own teammate), not twice (thankfully missed), but three times (hit a ref) and then seeing Siegenthaler cross check Jarvis about four times after the fourth goal while he was on the ice in the net after falling into it, you will need to pardon my skepticism that Meier wasn't intentionally trying to crash into Andersen to potentially injure him, making zero attempt to avoid it.
“BUMPED INTO”? Jesus Christ he dropped his shoulder and drove into Anderson deep in the paint. Even Canes hater Bissonette says this should have been at the least a 2 minute minor penalty.
Most people looking at the Meier collision dont understand how difficult it is when you're trying stop and someone shifts your balance while on skates. Go put skates on at home and then reassess lol.
The first goal was lucky shot, as was Meiers. And Slavins shot was downright disgusting. Almost impossible shot. That and the decimated defense of the devils are not looking great right now but Nemec and Cholowski is just not the answer. Put Siegs back with Nemec and give that crew some minutes.
Shame to see playoff Andersen (i.e. injured) make his return
Makes me laugh a little bit cause if we flipped the switch an wanted to fight the smallest on our team could mess up newjerseys team lol
Whether he bumped Freddie on purpose or not, Meier needed to leave the building with fewer teeth than he came in with. (I do think he bumped him on purpose, but intending to intimidate rather than injure. Freddie’s made of glass, alas.)
