The allure is not there anymore. I wouldn't expect isles to get top gm candidate since isles job is not the most appealing job out there with kraken who have more to offer like youth, cap space and others looking. B's are a quick fix job who don't stay down long and could get top pick. Sabres too.
Speed and skill is needed up front. No player should be off-limits to move including 13, 14, 30. gm must get cap relief first. Managing cap must start by dealing 27, 44 with one year left on deals-get some needed picks/prospects to do that. Buy out 24, 11. Have added cap space for buy outs.
And isles need to stay out of big game ufa hunting. Isles wont get a top ufa anyway no matter the situation. Louzer couldn't lure top ufa talent to isles with trotz success. Had to trade for/overpay big time to keep 21, 44. So look for cheap low risk ufa's that can be flipped for picks at tdl. No more long term 7-8 year deals including 8.
Everyone knew this mess for new gm was coming and going to be a re-build rather than re-do thanks to louzer's run it back stubborness. Ownership should have put a leash on louzer after '22 playoff miss. Just made re-build longer and more painful.
And finally gm must get rid of this country club atmosphere. Get some of these cozy don't care anymore mfkrs off of isles. With louzer according to sabre insiders rumoured for gm job there send them up to louzer.
I think an interesting factor we need to consider is we should want a GM who is used to navigating state/province tax barriers. If we grab FL/Tampa assistant GM, they’re used to having sunshine and no taxes so I worry they won’t have the same success without an inherent benefit like that.
Mathieu Darche from Tampa Bay.
little drastic, clean house, from Lee to Duclair, give away Hudson, Mclean, Gitcomb, buy out Engvall, Mayfield, and Pelech, get picks for this years draft for Lee, Palm, J G .To new GM October lines should be number one. .Jefferies, Barzy and F/A Marner..line 2- Ehlers F/A, Bo, Holmstrom, Line 3 Ritchie, Beekman and Maggio R/W and the forth, this years pick, either Bear L/W Desnoyers -C or if we luck out and get Martone for R/W, either of these players are on the 4th line with Berg as C and Larson as R/W.
good evening Gil. With 8 other teams, competitive teams, looking for a new head coach you'd have to say the Isles will not be anyone's most desired destination…that goes for the GM as well given the crater Lou left behind. There isn't one player on this roster who should be proud of their performances. EVERYONE is capital for a rebuild…. And don't forget the team has ZERO on ice leadership … Lee was a ghost
I'm hoping we can move up in the draft and get martone.with a new gm we need to clean house.pags, palms, lee, duclair and Mayfield and engval must be bought out.along with pelec.start the youth.
Gil, it was reported Isles were offered a 1st for Pageau by Edm this past deadline & dummy turned it down. Could have traded Mayfield & got assets but perhaps Scott said no. I think lots of interest in job. I want Isles to be toughest team in NHL, again. So tuff teams won't want to brawl with them. Isles so relentless & hard hitting that teams hate to play them. Those were my favorite teams. On defense, I would trade 24, 3, 6, & Bolduc. Who replaces not certain but do it. I would keep the assistant Toy hired, even if they don't retain Roy & the scout that has the Russian & Euro connections. Imagine Roy couldn't hire his own director of goal tending, that went to a former Dev. Greco, I would keep.
Gil, what is the savings difference between buying Mayfield out & burying his contract in minors? It wouldnbe great to have a vet like him in Bridge, helping kids develop. Does he lose his trade protection if waived? I don't think he would clear waivers but being in Bridge would be positive. Mentor & less pay.
Good 🌄, Gil. How are you? Right now, the Islanders are in limbo until they hire a new GM. Who's young and knows the game like the back of his/her ✋️. THE ISLANDERS NEED TO GET YOUNGER, FASTER, AND MORE PHYSICAL, not like the Broad Street Bullies, but physical
nevertheless. They need to lose the bad contracts. They also need to know that if they play terrible, THEY'RE ON. THE 1st PLANE TO BRIDGEPORT, JUNIOR, OR TO ANOTHER PLANE. Can Patrick Roy fit in with the President/GM? I'm sure he can. You have a lot of GMs that are candidates that want the chance to run their own team. There also some candidates who want a change of scenery, not to mention the main reason TO CLEAN UP THE MESS LOU LAMORIELLO MADE, that means he/she has to survey the damage. Anthony, from Ronknokoma, no Islander GM, NOT EVEN BILL TORREY has ever signed an elite free agent. HAPPY 🎂, JASON CHIMERA. He scored a goal and an assist in 4-0;win over the Bruins. Gear from you later, Gil. Today, I'm going to ⌚️ how Trots goes 5 for 5 against the Flyers in 1982 on his way to becoming the 2nd Islander to 50 goals in a season. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Good morning team! Glad to be back and on catch up mode. Gil, I believe building a team to fit Roy's system is important, for the very reasons you spoke about. Not fair to the team or to Roy. If we're not going to build that type of team for his system, then he should have been given his release. The fact that he is still there leads me to believe they may try to build his team. A system, especially Roy's, can not be implemented without having the players skilled enough to work it. I'm anxious to see what kind of team we start the new season with. That will scream volumes. Everyone, have a great day! See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders, Let's Go Mets!!
Lots of challenges Gil. I hope Patrick Roy is involved. I have always had confidence in him, whether a Player, Coach, GM, Owner, etc. LGI
If the Isles next GM is banking on Roy he will be making a big mistake! The Isles need a complete overhaul and Roy must go! A complete rebuild will take more than 1 season and Roy isn't the coach who can handle the task. When he coached Colorado he inherited a decent team which qualified for the playoffs his first season and then they failed to qualify his last 2 seasons.
I just hope that the new GM, whoever it is, shows us their plan clearly from the beginning so that the fans can know what we should expect from the team whether that's being a rebuild or trying to compete sooner rather than later. I would hope we keep Roy and work with his system because I think he is a coach that could get this team far.
