Panthers Sweep the first two games in Tampa! Will Aleksander Barkov suit up in Game 3?

On today’s edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Rod Pedersen(@RodPedersen) of the Cats n’ Bolts Podcast and the Rod Pedersen Show to break down the Panthers’ 2-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, where it was a low-event hockey game, where there was one goal scored 4:15 into the first period, and nothing else before Sam Bennett capped it off with an empty-net goal. Nate Schmidt struck again with his third goal in the first two games after having five all season, and was a goal that beat Andrei Vasilevskiy on the far side blocker with no screen in front after the Lightning iced the puck. The physicality started to pick up as there were more post whistle scrums in game 2 in comparison to the previous. The Panthers went to the box five times, and their league best road penalty kill was put to the test where they went a perfect 5/5, including multiple kills that results in zero shots due to them meeting the Bolts at the blue line as they tried to gain the zone. It was another game where Tampa Bay led in shot attempts, but the Panthers commitment to shot blocking and Sergei Bobrovsky being able to see the puck helped guide the Panthers to their shutout win and a 2-0 series lead before they head home to Sunrise. The Panthers played the final 10 minutes without Aleksander Barkov as he left the game after an interference call from Brandon Hangel that ended up with Barkov hitting his head on the ice and being slow to get up. Although the Panthers did not score on the 5-minute power play, they were able to kill a lot of time and get the game close to 0:00. The guys give their three stars of the game, when we knew the game was lost, and prepare for the weekend as the series now shifts to South Florida as Aaron Ekblad will return from his suspension. We discuss all of this and more on today’s edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.

  1. I'm just going to be waiting on Barky updates. Gives me deja vu from last season's hit in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup.. Interestingly enough I think that too came with about 10 minutes left in the game. I don't know the game well enough so hockey players, tell me, was that a dirty hit or was it just a clean, hard hit? I guess the fact the refs decided to give a 5 min penalty could indicate that it might have been dirty

  2. I m really really worried about that Barkov nasty hit. I hope Hagel gets suspended. Now my worry comes from the place that team is focused and this could turn the switch on for retaliation and sometimes that disconnects you from the real objective. I do trust the team and specially Paul Maurice will handle this exceptionally.

  3. Tampa bay is very overrated with soft weak players. The Russian who only shows up for individual awards and hides in the playoffs and a bunch of soft bums and gietzel is another individual stat puncher with no heart

Even without Barkov we will roll these bums 4-0

  4. That hit should have been more than 5. Left his feet, hit Barkov’s head. Puck wasn’t even near. Bad

  5. It’s five because he was nowhere near the puck and because the violence of the hit towards the head area. He was completely blindsided without the puck and you can’t see why it was five minutes that’s a joke.

  6. Preds fan here! I’m so tired of seeing frustration that opposing players have with the Cats and their stifling defense with taking cheap shots on Barkov! Leon Draisaitl did it last season during the Finals and now Hagel in this year’s playoffs. If the league is “serious” about eliminating these types of hits. Hagel unlike Draisaitl should be suspended…PERIOD!

  7. I think Coach Maurice has the luxury to sit him next game with the return of Ekbkad
While moving Lundell to his spot and moving Marchand to Lindy’s spot on the 2nd line
