Carolina Hurricanes exorcise the Devils in double-overtime to advance in Stanley Cup Playoffs

Instead of putting the hammer down on New Jersey to close out the series, the Carolina Hurricanes came out of the gate flat. The sluggish start, which went beyond a shaky Kochetkov in net, put the Canes down 0-3 to the Devils before the 1st intermission. But the “2nd Period Canes” came through to tie the game at 4-4 going into the 3rd period. Devils goalie Markström was outstanding in double-overtime, but the Canes finally broke through at the end of a 4-minute power play to finally close out the series.

  1. That's the big thing this is the first series in a long time where the top dudes Aho/Svech/Blake/Jarvis/Stankoven have scored and not just relying on our bottom 6 to.carry 80 percent of it .

  2. The first period was horrible, I had conplete faith that in the second period they would come back. If we ended the second period without any improvements, that's when I worry.

  3. C'mon, PK held serve after period 1. Hirisher wrister was a nice shot. Stoppable yes, but a nice shot nonetheless. He was rattled to start but so was the whole damn team. Then they locked in. End of OT shot was a Burns gaffe. Gave it away
