Will Elias Pettersson ever get back to superstar form?

TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss how impressive this season has been for Alex Ovechkin as he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record, if there is cause for concern in Edmonton after two disappointing games coming out of the 4 Nations Face-Off break, and if Elias Pettersson getting back to his superstar form is now a distant dream for the Canucks.

  1. Need to stop defending skinner. His 900 save % is league average but that's not good enough for playoffs.

  2. Petey is a victim of his own success. Few players have more god given talent then him, and it interpreted into early success. But then he didn't work on his conditioning, skill set, game focus etc. Throw a shitload of money into the equation along with too large an ego & attitude. Todays Petey is the result

  3. With three Petterssons on the team, it will be easier for forward Elias to weather the boos. I thought with JT Miller being jettisoned out of Vancouver, Elias’s play would like catching lightning in a bottle.

  4. No.

Put him on waivers, hope some team is stupid enough to pick up him and his contract, and let's get our $11.6 million per year cap space back to spend on playoff warriors.

  5. Get our 11.6 million dollar man off the ice and into a hyperbaric chamber for several months. Have him ready for the start of next season healthy. He can play call of duty while he's in there. Ez

  6. P was the worst player at Four Nations… something has happened to him, either mental or physical.. or both.

  7. I love seeing Vancouver fans losing their minds. "Losing more of their minds". An unhealthy goalie, plus an overpaid-adult baby.

  8. So have anyone, expert or normal person, came up with some analysis of Petterssons bad performance? Sometimes, it feels like Hockey is super shallow without any depth at all when you hear so called "expert" and even more so, "fans" talk about. I have literally no knowledge of the sport so I have no clue but it seems like there must more to it than "he is just bad".

What happens during his shifts? Is he doing everything badly compared to his line mates (or whatever its called) Is he much worse than the other forwards? I just look at the statistics now but seems like everyone apart from Hughes, seems to be at the same level point-wise. Not saying stats says it all but is Pettersson supposed to be at 60+ points to be "OK" when the other forwards are at <36 p??

I understand that with his salary comes certain expectations etc but all I am saying is that the analysis and talks about Petterssons bad performance seems so shallow and stupid, compared to for instance EU soccer where they go in to more depth in players performances

  9. Vancouver needs to retool. Boeser isn’t worth a long term investment. Admit Petterson is cooked in Vancouver. Trade both for young talent. Why isn’t Ratty up with the big club. Freshen up the Forward Group, get better on Defense and bring in Goaltending prospects.

  10. no he was never a superstar in the first place, but moderately good. Over-priced, too timid, not physical enough, benefitted from others good seasons in past

  11. lol fast forward 3 years “will Petey return to superstar form?” This guy is finished! Get rid of him.. send him to a crap market in the states and say bye bye, good riddance.. soft, weak, no extra gear.. biggest management mistake in Canucks history was signing him 11.6 / 8 years
