  1. Good that you're not expecting to see a retread, but there's a reason that you never see an NHL coach win a championship then successfully lead his team through a rebuild in a later year. It's because that coach has already been fired before the rebuild starts. Often two or more coaches are fired before the rebuild. NHL owners and GMs aren't noted for their patience.

  2. Sullivan is good, but he's a one trick pony. Dubas is not going to scour the earth for Sullivan-style players. We need somebody that can make adjustments, match up better, and not just say "play the right way, stay on the right side of the puck, blah bla".

  3. I'm only 40% suprised if that… Only reason its remotely surprising is because they weren't really expected to do much this year. I'm glad going forward it's unlikely that a new coach will have a long leash for a long time

  4. It was beyond time. Team was stale for some time. And a guy averse to young inexperienced players isn’t the guy for a rebuild/re-tool where players like that will be relied upon. I don’t care about the Pens’ strong finish any more than I do Buffalo’s strong finish.

  5. Connecting the dots from the season ending presser to today. Dubas felt the players, like Karlsson, were getting complacent and comfortable not being a winner. Then today Dubas makes note of how Sully's long relationships with the team make it difficult to go through a rebuild and come out the other side. Seems to me Dubas is holding Sully responsible for the inconsistent effort, attention to detail and accountability among veteran players. A new coach is one way to dispel that overly comfortable atmosphere in the room lately.

  6. It's been a long time coming. There has been a disconnect between the coaching/ the coach's system and the general manager for close to 10 years.

Mike Sullivan is a great coach but not the right coach for the current Penguins roster.

  7. About time. Good coach, best before date expired 3 years ago. Unable to adapt to new style in NHL. Small non -physical teams with extremely predictable plays that solely relied on stars for sucess. Total failure of defensive strategy. Players suddenly forgot how to play D when coming to the Pens.

Ridiculous comments on Karlsson. Apparently they have not watched Letang's defensive breakdowns and sloppiness for 10 years. For all his failures, he is the most skilled D on the team and any realistic coach would put a defensive D with him.

  8. Sell the Team…Sell the Team…oh…wait…….wrong franchise… I've enjoyed watching the Pens under Sullivan but there are times where it was incredibly frustrating as well. I would love to see the Pens retain Quinn as the power play was very good most of the season. I'd be highly interested to see David Carle working with a bunch of guys older than he is. /edit…. it hurts to like this video a little.

  9. Taylor is so plugged in with the team, her questions and insights are some of the best out there when it comes to the Pens! Thanks Taylor, really appreciate how amazing you are at your job!

  10. Great coach, won't be unemployed long. Rangers or Boston will scoop him up quick. He's just not what the Pens need for this rebuilding process.

  11. Sully’s 2016 team played defense in the offensive zone. Fast forward to 2018 and for one, they should’ve paid the players that just won them two Cups. But they stopped passing a lot and gradually were simply not playing defense. 2020, against Montreal, was so bad!
There were a lot of roster moves and contracts that just didn’t make sense and it’s taking them years to recover from them that.
I just don’t get why this team has been so bad in the power play for so many years! Of all the great things Aid can do, the power play is not one of them.

  12. You can blame Sully and I don't 100 percent disagree. I mean look at Kapanan. Look at the Kessel.fias o. Everyone has to play 2 way hockey. Not always a bad thing but we can't have a team of Carl Hagelin either. This team needsa a second line. If youre going to leave Malkinnthere he needs real talent. Hes 39!@!$ has gone throughbtwo major reconstructive knee surgies. Hes not the 1B center he uses to be.

I think a lot of this has to do with Dubas too. I mean 18 mil in keep space last offseason and we brought in Kevin Hayes! He traded Jake who was a home grown talent and had chemistry with our best player. So many bad moves.. Riley Smith, Ryan Graves, you could even argue EK65. I mean what gives on the Dubas leash here. Time for Mr full responsibilty to put on his big boy pants and build a fucking hockey team. Before Sid is gone and its too late tonget this man another ring.. shit even just some plmore playoff runs. I hate tonsay someone is worse than Hextall but we have found the guy. At least Hextall brought in Rakell
