Should Cole Perfetti’s waved off goal have counted?

Jets colour commentator Kevin Sawyer joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss if Cole Perfetti’s waved off goal in the second period should have counted, how the Blues were able to ground the Jets in Game 3, and what Winnipeg’s game plan should be to get back in the win column in Game 4.

  1. No. The overhead camera is the only one that means anything, and the webbing of Binnington's glove makes it impossible to conclusively tell. If the puck was in it was by milimeters, but you still can't completely tell

  2. It was very clearly in from multiple angles, the whole inside of the glove was behind the line and you could see the puck hit the back of the glove. Would it have made a difference? We'll never know. Shoulda coulda wouldas don't get you anywhere in the playoffs. Jets need a bounce back game 4 and I think they will.

  3. You could see the puck in from the net cam. But with how the Blues were playing it wouldn’t have made a difference.

  4. No. Rule 69 states: "No Canada-based team should get the benefit of a call against a U.S.-based team on the road even if a video replay(s) deems otherwise."

  5. diehard Jets fan…

it was 100% a goal…but that was probably the right call. not a clear enough view to overturn the call on the ice

  6. NEW RULE : transparent thick plastic gloves for goaltenders only …. It doesn’t exist ?

Oh well, let’s stick with refs that are barely refs shenanigans instead, a lot more entertaining.

  7. Blues fan and I believe that it was in, but I still don’t think the Blues were coughing up that game even if had that been allowed.

  8. Not sure why that is not definitive. You can clearly see the puck in the glove behind the post. That goal would have given life to the Jets who were quietly gaining momentum. They also scored the next goal in the 3rd period. Which at that point it would have been 3-2.
Instead it seems nothing is going your way and momentum sags…and the blowout ensues. Arniel will quickly get the Jets back on track like he’s done all year, and I expect much tighter checking in game 4.

  9. They paused it at the time that the puck was already coming back out of the glove but if you watch closely when the puck hit the back of the glove it is in by 2 good inches. Now if that is a goal it's a whole new game.

  10. 0:36 There’s no doubt the shot in question entered Binnington‘s glove and bounced around quite a bit inside that glove. Had he reached much further back into the net, the decision might very well have been different. In any case, in retrospect, even if that goal had counted, the Jets still would’ve lost as they would go onto allow seven goals by the end of that game.

  11. If the ref called it a goal and the Blues appealed the result would have been the same. Not enough to overturn the call.
