Tocchet is a highly overrated head coach.
But hes a great assistant coach
Guys I have to admit, I am stunned. I thought Mike Sullivan would return next season, but I think it's best for both sides that each get a fresh start. The Penguins are moving in a different direction and it's an opportunity for Mike Sullivan to reset also.
Every Penguin fan should be appreciative of what Sullivan brought here, The Penguins don't win those two cups, especially the 2016 cup, if that coaching change isn't made by Jim Rutherford.
I think he ends up potentially in either New York, Boston, or Vancouver, if they move on from Rick Tocchett.
As far as The Penguins go, I am with you Hunter, I personally would like to see the Penguins take a stab at Jay Woodcroft. When he took the Edmonton Oilers for Dave Tippett, he completely changed them and the way they play. I think he's good coach that's great with young players and I agree, he got a horrible rap in Edmonton last year from their poor start, which was due to goaltending. I am fine if The Penguins would go after him.
One of the worst moves of Dubas (not karlsson although that was bad and highlights his lack of ability to know how to build a winning team) was the guentzel trade. If you are retooling and wanting to be competitive during SIDS tenure you don’t trade away one of 8 40 goal scorers in the league. On avg at most we have 17 40 goal scorers. That means they traded away a player that is .017% of players for 4 guys, one of which can be a solid second line winger and a bunch of 3/4th liners and maybe nhlers. And in guentzel a proven big game player.
He couldn’t even get a solid first line prospect. This is just how bad Dubas’ approach is. As a penguins fan living in Toronto I saw first hand his approach. And I predicted penguins will be bottom 10 team by year two (and they were) and I will say they will now be irrelevant and waste the final years of sid and not be relevant for years after.
Heard that sully didn't want karlason
Hopefully this new coach can unlock the NHL tier in Graves' game.
Way I look at it … Badger Bob is the most important coach in franchise history; Mike Sullivan is the best coach in franchise history.
But yeah, it was overdue a change. But as has been said, be careful what you wish for.
Sullivan had too much power in this organization for a head coach. The corruption was in full swing.
This coaching change will be good for the culture in the room. Everything has been way too comfortable for vets here, for a long time. It'll be a return to accountability.
Most importantly we'll (hopefully) get a coach who knows how to develop and use young players better.
Standings points next year be damned. It's about paving the way for the future now.
What I REALLY don't want is for them to promote another minor league coach. Do this right!
I know when Dubas just spoke and he said they are casting a wide net, but if either one of you has a darkhorse candidate of who could get the job?
Dan Bylsma was a good coach as well. He brought home a Cup
I know it’s probably not the popular pick, but I wouldn’t mind Gallant
Love Sully. This is a tough day. Love that guy. I immediately am confident he’s going to be Boston’s coach. I am unbelievably confident in that
Who do you think replaces him ? Candidates
I'm glad "they agreed to part ways" but still wish Sullivan well in the future(unless he's playing Pens)
Do the Pens still pay him since it seem it was as mutual agreement to part ways as opposed to a termination?
Press Conference made it sound like it was a Dubas decision. So fired is probably the correct wording.
I'm dumbfounded that this actually happened, when I saw the news I think my jaw dropped lol. It was beyond time for him to move on, but it just sure seemed like he wasn't going to. Credit to Dubas, this couldn't have been an easy thing to do, but he did it. I'll still always respect Sullivan for the two cups, but he just wasn't the right coach for this team anymore and it was obvious for years now.
The list is a LIE wake 93.7 fan always lies Crowley Filliaponi biggest liar in local sports Dubas at press conference said NONE of that true
Tomlin should go with him.
Now what gonna happend with sid cause he say he want to only coach with sully now he gone idk how he gonna feel now
I feel dubas is still gonna try tank cause he know sully is guy is not gonna make team tank I feel he legit gonna try get Mckenna
Now dubas got rid of sully now I feel he gonna do it with rust and rackell
Koivunen did nothing both games. He needs to be better. He got hit a good amount in both games. Has to find ways to be more productive
I was surprised to see this. But looking back at Dubas's press conference from last week, where he gave an answer that seemed committal to Sully but worded it in a way that also seemed to creak the door open. That tells me there were some discussions about his future leading up to today. The playoff failures and then the issues like the blown leads, the historically bad PP from a year ago, and the failure of him to figure out how to get more out of EK65, it was just time to move on. But none the less, he is the best coach the team had. He just had a way of pushing all the right buttons with this team at all the right times during their Cup runs. He will have another job soon. Looking forward to who's next for the Pens.
Move over Vancouver Mike Sullivan will be there😂
Mario should come back and coach
Pat the optimism guy lol
Sully was a good coach but I don't think too many people will be shedding tears. Didn't seem like the most personable guy. Time to move on.
