HURRICANES TRADE OFFER TO MONTREAL CANADIENS FOR JEFF PETRY? (JAKE BEAN, 1ST ROUND PICK) Habs Rumors

According to Pierre LeBrun on RDS, the Carolina Hurricanes are very interested in Montreal Canadiens defenceman Jeff Petry, so much to the extent that they are willing to give up a draft pick in the 1st round and top prospect Jake Bean, who’s doing well with the Charlotte Checkers right now.

  1. Man I dunno. Petry is so damn good. I think we are a much, much worse team without him. How do we replace him? Bean might be good or a flop. He's in the unknown zone. Suzuki, a first and im good.

  2. For habs fans sake I’d love to see that deal. I like Jake bean but at the same time u gotta think habs fans would rather Ryan Suzuki to reunite the brothers

  3. If they trade Petry it shouldn't be to the eastern conference because he still has another year left on his contract. Also, unless the return for Petry is insane, Bergevin shouldn't trade him. He's too valuable, especially when Weber gets injured, he plays such heavy minutes and still produces.

  4. The trade market hasn't been this high in forever. They should at least add a 2nd or another "good" prospect. Even that.. Blake Coleman got a 1st and a "more than good" prospect for crying out loud.

  5. It's a good deal but also you need more than bean and a first in return also a guy like haula or dzingel would be a good deal they both have a good amount of NHL experience

  6. Because of the price that teams paid for players like zucker, coleman and even scandella I think the habs could get more than that for petry! And the fact that he still have 1 year of his really good contract after this season add a lot of value. But Bean and a first isn’t a bad return at all

  7. Not even close to the right value. Losing a proven player in Petry for a prospect and a late first round pick is absolute trash.

  8. If Jake bean is this good then why is he not sporting a jersey with the big team? Why not. I'm confused.

  9. RD is one of our most needed positions in the pipeline for the future. Habs aren't winning the cup with this core we are missing some key elite players.
Id make this trade all day, one more prospect at the RD position and a 1st round draft pick in a deep draft? Yeah baby. Marc Bergevin wants to win now tho so not happening

  10. As a Habs fan I wouldnt like to see Petry being traded away, but if I was Bergevin I think that would be a good deal to make. If Bergevin is able to to trade Petry and another asset/pick for Ryan Suzuki and Haydyn Fleury, I believe that could be pretty special

  11. Ok I absolutely love the value on the table, however if you endorse the fact that without Weber, Petry is by far the best defender on this Canadiens team, then just think of what it would be like without Petry while Weber is out for any reason. People think Ben Chiarot has a lot of ice time now,

    just you wait and see.

  12. I think the habs win this one. Jake Bean needs a new start, great numbers in the minor show, and only 21. The first could add to that. Jeff is the ideal defensemen tho

  13. I'd try to punch for a 3rd pick to go along with the current t offer it dare I say it even a 2nd if not 3rd. After a day or so and nothing happens then I'd take the deal.

  14. Not a big fan of losing Petry at all! When Weber was injured, it was Petry that held the defense together playing 20+ minutes a game. And though the trend to draft young players seems to be the norm of late, Teams need seasoned mentors to pass on knowledge. No… I think we are well set up for the first five rounds in the draft… Don’t throw away an excellent sniper and defenseman on the possibility that a new kid will zip in and replace him.

  15. As a hurricanes fan this seems like it would be a desperate last gasp move by our top brass to keep our wild card spot by trading our best defensive prospect and a 1st for a 32 year old with a lot of cap hit… Would not do it imo

  16. Habs fan im down for it but i want one more prospect… I would have take gauthier with it but he allredy gone… A player like hayden fleury or ryan suzuki would make the job.

  17. I posted the same article on the habs forum.. And got an over whelming amount of negative feedback. Most were saying that it was a good thing i wasnt the gm. I should go kill myself for making that offer and that the habs should build their team around petry… First petry is good but at 32 years old if you offer him a contract extension be prepared to offer 3-5 at 7 to 8mil a season. And to me thats a hell no. 2) this core in place has not made the playoffs in 4 of the last 5 years. So what makes you think that a healthy 20-21 season will get you the playoffs and then petry and tatar walk for nothing. 3) who replaces petry..who cares you can worry about that in the offseason. Expecially with brooks norlinder romanov(& his rumoured teammate he wants to come with him over) a healthy juulsen and fleury. 3) i also heard rumours of bergy loves graves and girard from colorado if you can steal one of them for tatar then there you go. Or swing for the fences and sweeten the deal of byram or timmins.. Far fetched i know but i can dream lol

  18. Any other GM would take that trade and make it even better,,, but knowing Bergevin,,, he will decline ,,, cause he believes that his team is one or 2 players away from a contender ,,, oh please,,, next year he will give him 7million/year and go too long ,,, and he will be stuck with an aging D whos making too much like Webber
