‘McDavid is literally unstoppable’: Button on McDavid nearly willing Oilers to victory

Connor McDavid willed the Oilers to a comeback in the third period scoring the game-tying goal on a brilliant solo effort for his fourth point of the night, but it was quickly erased by a game-winning goal from Phillip Danault 46 seconds later. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined SC with Jay Onrait to discuss McDavid’s performance in Game 1 and share how impressed he was by the Kings’ offence.

  1. Mcdavid & Draisatl ARE the Oilers, Buttons!! Stop saying i bet against oilers not Mcdavid & Drai 🤨

  2. The sensationalism is gross. How many goals did he let in while on ice? What's his plus minus? Thats the true measure. And how about that holding the stick on his first goal? Isn't that a penalty? So he gets to cheat? Awesome.

  3. It's not a matter of can you stop him or can you not. It's a matter of stopping him ENOUGH. Last night, 2 dominant periods and 6 goals was the cushion they needed to "stop him." That's way too big of a cushion, and it's not sustainable. But yes, on that night, they did in fact stop him. That's all that matters.

With 3 dominant periods, it wouldn't take 6 goals. Trouble is, it takes an insane amount of energy (physical and mental) to shut him down, chance after chance. You can't do it alone, you can't do it if everyone on the ice is gassed because you iced the puck 20 times in a row, and you can't do it if you make a guess and that guess is wrong. That's what you saw on the tying goal. Everyone was gassed and 97 walked in alone because LA's best 2 skaters and goalie all bet on him passing. They forced his hand, and he burned them. But it wasn't some crazy play that nobody else in the world could have made.

The Draisaitl goal, where he spun off Kopitar and made a perfect pass? That one is the one you "can't stop." And there aren't going to be 4 of those a night. Not against LA.

  4. That's why it is annoying when people are like "Mcdavid hasn't won a cup"
Hockey is a team sport. Mcdavid has literally done everything he can to win a cup. You can't blame Mcdavid for not winning a cup

  5. LA should be very worried. The Oilers look fresh, and once they woke up they overpowered LA. They were very lucky to get the win, and will come out very nervous next time. Oilers in 5.

  6. Bullshit. He was holding Kopitar stick at the end of 2 period.Goal should be disallowed, instead LA would be on another PP

  7. Craig Button speaking non sense as usual.

    “The Kings can’t score easily.”

What game were watching Craig? Kings scored 6 goals. And of course you don’t want to mention McDavid holding the stick on a couple of those goals.

  8. You think the oilers will win a cup with 2 guys? Good luck getting past the avs they look like the real deal

  9. Skinner just can't make the important saves. He was the problem. You can't win a game only stopping 80% of the shots you get. And we're lucky Kuzmenko lost the handle on his wrap around cuz Skinner was out to lunch on that too

  10. Craig Button speaking non sense as usual.

  11. Skinner was unstoppable also but with the puck going in the net 😂 man year after year, dejavu again

  12. Willed them so much he was completely responsible for the last goal , bad turnover and didn’t get back to cover his man

  13. Look at how McDavid easily goes around Kopitar, I believe the Oilers will win this series. Skinner is a slow starter and he absolutely sucks, I think Skinner and Bouchard will finally sit out for either of the next games ahead.
