Lets go!! Cuda
Thats the sharks farm system, shows what we have in store for the future of teal!
Nice episode JD! I really, really like this signing as it seems that GMMG is ensuring that the Sharks continue to increase their prospect depth and increase the overall talent level in the team.
Adding Matt Davis is a very sneaky good move. I am sure you have watched him during the last two plus seasons and especially in his Frozen Four runs. He was nails this season as he has been the previous seasons, but I think we have to take into account the team in front of him.
They have been among the best in the NCAA and have IMO, the best coach and coaching staff in the NCAA. This has helped his numbers. They coincide with a little drop in his numbers as some of that talent moved on before last season.
I imagine the Sharks got a really good read in him as they watched their other prospect Eric Pohlkamp excel with Denver.
After this singing, here is what I think their present depth looks like and add what we all know is coming and maybe one additional goalie?
NHL (Askarov and acquisition) – No surprise for the expectations on Asky, or acquiring another goalie to play alongside him.
I think my biggest surprise that GMMG stated in his last presser was the type of goalie he wants to acquire. It sounded to me he wants a goalie to not only push Asky, but be able to be the 1A goalie. At minimum it sounds like the new goalie should expect to start 40-50% of Sharks games next season.
I find this surprising because he also mentioned age with the goalie. He sounded like a middle aged and experienced goalie would be just as good as an older goalie. To me, this is him saying that this new goalie might get a three year contract.
Due to his wants for this goalie, I do not think there is one in FA this offseason that meets his requirements and expect him to make a trade to get the goalie he wants. What would the cost be for the type of goalie he wants?
Not sure, but if he acquires what he desires, then the Sharks goaltending tandem next season will be leaps and bounds better than what was in the net for the latter half of this past season.
One other note was that GMMG mentioned making sure that the new goalie has the right character and personality to mesh well with Askarov. Not something a GM typically brings up, but could make a big difference when wanting a cohesive net tandem moving forward.
A great breakdown of what to expect, be excited about and what to be worried about. I am very nervous about this series but have a pretty good feeling about it as you do. Will be watching and hoping for the best.
GO CUDA! The future is teal!
Went this whole podcast without mentioning Graf and Ostapchuk. I’m fully expecting Graf to step in and take the scoring lead back. Plus he has playoff experience playing for the national title. Also I’m very curious on Ostapchuks role and how he play in the AHL. I think we need to see something from him at this level to make ourselves feel better about the Zetterlund trade
Nice job jd
