What are your thoughts on Georgii Merkulov?
Prospect Profile: Career AHL tweener
AHL lifer.
I think Merkulov deserves some playing time. He certainly should get a good look during camp. His play in providence shows real promise. I'd like to see him bulk up some. but that's common w a lot of young guys. Maybe his time needs to be with better players. The bottom six means he's not getting real good opportunities.
Management has this issue with wanting EVERY player to be Bergeron, and be a big two way guy. The team never lets players be themselves.
Thanks for the player profile. These are nice to get a better feel for the AHL guys.
Meh… we have other more promising prospects
who is developing the Baby B's? Are they really on the same page as far as systems go? they seem to have decent chemistry as a group with some success. are they impacted negatively if or when they are brought up to the Big club?
I like the idea of giving the ones whom have earned a spot for playing time to get called up but i think they are more cautious after dealing with adjustments and individual playing styles. (Poitras). they play with more energy and enthusiasm thna the veterans. Ill take hungry players over complacent everyday. I say let them play but educate them along the way.
I like him, but he NEEDS to show more urgency in his game. I feel he plays too passive, too careful when in the NHL. He needs to just let go and play his game. Totally agree about the bruins drafting/trading for/signing talented players, only to try to mold them into 4th line grinders. Ultimately, I don't think this team is the right team for Merkulov. He needs to go elsewhere to get a proper look.
This is what everyone meant about the talent pool being dry in Boston I guess… Merkulov sounds like a great player in a group of average players. Hoping he does something to improve dramatically in summer – but my guess is he is at his limit. I hope I am wrong..
I agree with what you said, if you don't give him a chance how will we know ? , season ticks at providence seen the kid play a bunch, give him a chance Please
Appreciate the sober assessment. Not a good sign to see his points drop way off
They should give him a proper chance.
I’ve had questions about the bruins development system for years so many players spent years in providence and didn’t amount to anything it seems like the best prospects they’ve had for the last 20 years are always ones that go straight to the nhl of spend maybe half a season in providence. Is it bad evaluation bad development I’m not sure. I would at this point support them ditching the bottom 3 grinder concept and just run a line of the young guys to see what they can do with extended shifts and time in the nhl as the players they are not the grinders they want them to be. Rick potino said it best larrry and Kevin Clare not coming through the door. Bergeron is coming in the door again the same way Bob Gainey didn’t in Montreal
I was happy to see the youngsters play the final few games of the season. There were some bright spots in spite of the record.
I watched a video of the top prospects entering the draft. The video ranked the first Five as Super and Exceptional. Thankfully Sweeney has the fifth pick. Sweeney must hit this draft.
Thanks for the post. Enjoy the info on the prospects. Every kid is not going to be the next Bergy, the defensive side of the game sometimes comes later. Draft some kid the can score. Even if his 'two way' game stinks.
Possibly-Likely headed to KHL after this season in Providence
Your post is Spot On, once again!
Should give him a shot….who knows.
I'm just hopin' Sweeney put's together a better team next season.
For the love of Hockey and the Bruins.
I do not disagree that he did not get the opportunity that many fans wanted but I think he is an AHL guy. He is going to have a hard time getting a good look with the likes of Potrais, Minten, Lysell and this kid Locmelis waiting in the wings. I liked him coming out of OSU and wish he panned out but it is probably time to move on. I think it would be good for him as a player to have a change and also good for the Bruins to focus on the 4 players I just mentioned and get them to the NHL as soon as possible. I think Minten and Lysell are a lock for next season. I wish the kid luck.
I am sick of all the rhetoric about the mistakes made this year from even before training camp. What's done is done, let us move on. If all the injured players return, and we start healthy, I feel very optimistic about next year. Will they win the Stanley cup, I think not. But, I feel they will return to respectability, consistancy, and the team effort so absent this year. I also feel like there has been enough turmoil, and change, so let the dust settle. A healthy, harmonic training camp will be such a nice start. Then let's see where we go from there !
