  1. People need to understand material science with these carbon fibre sticks. They're light and amazingly strong(for their mass/weight, this is how carbon fibre achieves a higher tensile strength ratio to steel), but due to the resin used in construction, they're fragile once you surpass their rated thresholds(this can be improved by weave patterns or adding more layers, but that often means more weight/less flex).

Also notice Petey snaps his at where he's leveraging the stick, and not the typical joint area where the blade assembly is attached(at least for older compound stick designs). He isn't breaking his stick at the joint, he's surpassing the stick's tensile strength.

  2. For everyone saying wood wouldn't break. Yeah it wouldn't break but guys couldn't shoot the puck nearly as fast. Most of the speed for shots comes from the flex of the stick

  3. Carbon fiber is strong but doesn't take impact well. They're disposable at the NHL level but I feel bad for the kids that have to buy them.

  4. I agree, bring back the wood. You would think one of these pros would have the guts to do it. But most pros couldnโ€™t shoot as hard with a wooden stick, but they would miss the net as much either.

  5. I think in those key points in the game, especially in the playoffs, the defenseman should switch back to wooden or aluminum shafted sticks. I've lost count howmany times that ive watched a stick shaft just explode during a key moment in the game. You never saw that when wood sticks or aluminum shafted sticks were in use.
