What the hell was he thinking?

In day 2 of the NHL Playoffs, we saw the Carolina Hurricanes lay an absolute pounding on the New Jersey Devils who lost 3 players due to injury during this game. Facing 45 shots, Jacob Markstrom was great despite being peppered by the Canes. However, in the 3rd period he made a huge mistake. Going to slash Svechnikov in front of his own net, he instead caught Cody Glass who went down and actually left the game. He landed awkwardly on his right knee as during the same sequence, Luke Hughes went flying into his own net in a crazy shift that saw 2 Devils players leave the ice at the same time. This, after Brendan Dillon had already left the game earlier in the 2nd period due to an awkward collision with Carrier. It was truly a brutal game for the Devils who were already banged up coming into this series. I cover it all and more in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. Canadian here. New Jersey goalie should have gotten a minor penalty for slashing because he intentionally hit a player with his stick. The rules don’t differentiate between an opponent or a teammate who received the slash. It’s the intent behind the act.

  2. #1. Lots of black on the NJ uniforms, might not be easy to tell them apart out of the corner of your eye at game speed. This is one advantage of uni-colour uniforms (although they are ugly).
#2. I wonder if goalie can get a 10-minute or game misconduct for blasting a team-mate like that (but I am not curious enough to look up the rules).

  3. You shouldn’t downplay the Dillon head shot, his chin definitely made contact with the players elbow.

The chin is definitely not a place you want heavy contact, as it can cause consciousness issues, as we saw here.

  4. Just my opinion, but injuring your own player warrants a suspension. The intent to injure was there for all to see. It was dumb luck that he got Glass and not Svechnikov.

  5. Devils werent going far without Jack Hughes Lets face it ….Still what are the odds of Glass catching that slash ..Reminded me of Randy Johnson pitch that killed pigeon ….out of nowhere BOOM
