Capitals vs. Canadiens: Key Goalie Decision & Protas’ Return Questions Ahead of Playoffs

The Washington Capitals are gearing up for their first-round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens, with a crucial decision looming over who will start in goal for Game 1. Head coach Spencer Carbery has left fans in suspense regarding whether Logan Thompson or Charlie Lindgren will get the nod. Thompson is making a comeback after recovering from an upper-body injury and boasts impressive season stats, despite a late-season slump. Conversely, Lindgren has been active in recent games, securing four wins, but has struggled with his goals-against average and save percentage. In addition to the goaltender decision, the Capitals received good news with forward Aliaksei Protas returning to practice in a non-contact jersey following a skate cut that sidelined him earlier in the month. His potential return, along with the recent recall of defenseman Ethan Bear from the Hershey Bears, could significantly impact the team’s performance in the playoffs. With the series set to begin on Monday at 7 PM, excitement is building as the Capitals aim to make a strong impression against the Canadiens.

  1. CAN YOU FEEL IT CAPS FANS IM CHEERING LOUD AND PROUD ALL THE WAY FROM TEXAS WE LETS GET THESE GAMES TAKEN CARE OF AT HOME LETS GO

  2. I was skeptical when we acquired Bear. If he was so great, why didn't Vancouver keep him? Why didn't other teams make more of an effort to get him? I hope he has gotten his life and game together and he plays at his full skills. It's wait and see as far as I'm concerned. As to deals at the deadline, yeah we can look backwards and say this and this. But I think they did pretty well at the time. From the little I've seen of Beauvillier, I like getting him. I would have liked it more if it was a third but probably a third wouldn't have gotten the deal done. So by not going all in we basically protected our future. We signed a number of key pieces. Montreal will be tough but LETS GO CAPS!!

  3. Agree about Lindgren. Keep him in, with the hopes that they’ll move past this round, and LT can come in healthy..

  4. I remember Wilson being a big, gangly youngster coming to the big club-skating around hard, trying his best…but just not clicking. I remember Backstrom looking slow, and I was wondering if he’d ever be able to make a difference. Both turned out great. Leonard will do the same. In my opinion he already looks better than Willy did at this stage…
