The Toronto Maple Leafs just beat the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The stars, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and John Tavares all came to play and got the best of Brady Tkachuk and Linus Ullmark. There was some rough stuff involving Max Domi at the end.

Sens are young, and it shows. Leafs looked pretty unbeatable last night. Their mistakes were nominal, of a team that's been there before and ready to get over the hump.

That stutzle boarding penalty was the softest call ive seen in the history of hockey.
In the rule book boarding is defined as a vicious hit on a vulnerable player.
Tanev was vulnerable, and Stützle noticed as much and let up on the hit. Tavev braced his gloves on the boards and is probably thankful timmy didnt pile drive him into the boards head first as he easily could have on that play (which would have waranted a minor pen, or even potentially a major tbh)

NHL wants to see Leafs go deep, or at least the Refs do. Soft calls. Too soft, blew the game open . This is supposed to be playoff hockey.
Didn't see a single opportunity to hit someone neglected. This is going to be an expensive series for whoever wins. For the sake of the players and the game, I hope they keep the hits above board. I don't like to see any playoff team hindered by injuries from cheap hits. Play hard. Play fair. May the best team win.

The best part about this game was how disciplined the leafs were. Didn’t react to the rat play of Tkachuk or any of the other Ottawa players attempts to antagonize and draw penalties
There were a couple Ullmark should have had, but that shot that deflected RIGHT in front of him wasn't one of them.
Also, that first goal on Stolarz was a bit of a fluke, he tried to scoop it in and cover it, but it was bouncing around like crazy.

Wow. Leaf fans open your eyes. There is rat players on the leafs as well. Number one for sure is domi. Why didn’t he fight Kleven. Instead he runs away and jumps on Gaudet who doesn’t fight. Rat 101 in my book for sure. Outplayed and outshot. As soon as Ullmark shakes his head the leafs will be in trouble. Don’t get too cocky.
Ottawa were classless goons from 1970… not a fan of T.O. But if I were reffing this game and especially if I were NHL corporate => at least 3 Ottawa goons would get 1-3 game misconducts for those cross checks and other attempts to injure. The only penalty I really had a problem with was that first boarding call it was weak but I'm telling you if you want to argue with the Crosstrek to JT's face I'm sorry poor discipline on the Ottawa Senators fan the Leafs still outscored them 3 to 2 5 on 5
