Why is everyone talking about that comment like Larkin was the only one who felt that way? You seriously think Raymond, Seider, and Debrincat didnt feel the same way? I bet if Larkin was the only one who felt that way he never would have said anything.
Larkin is right, outside of a few good draft picks Yzerman has been a mediocre GM at best. He has this weird mentality where if you aren’t making the Stanley Cup finals then you shouldn’t bother to even make the playoffs at all. It’s almost like he’s afraid of making a big move for some reason.
Don't be surprised if Larkin's name comes up this summer in trade talks. Yzerman needs to make a major move, especially to get rid of a bad contract or 2. Tarasenko and Compher need to go. Holl and Gustafsson need to go. Chiarot needs to go. 1 of the goalies needs to go.
Y's time as GM has not been impressive. Poor coaching choices, poor trades, poor signings. Time for a change but illich won't do it. Too bad. For Larkin.
Were Red Wings fans willing to part ways with Kasper, Danielson, ASP, etc. for a rental? When Larkin and Raymond were playing like absolute dog sh*t after 4 nations? All the people that want Yzerman fired after the garbage Ken Holland left him? It takes a lot of time to completely wipe the board and create a winner. Ask any GM how long it takes and they will say 8 – 10 years. If you really watched the last couple years of Holland’s teams, you should understand why it’s taking so long, but obviously you’re brain dead. I have faith in the Yzerplan and Larkin should’ve said that behind close doors, not to the media. I used to like this guy, but what a cry baby. Do better on the ice, maybe you get rewarded, loser.
We don’t need Marner, don’t get me wrong I’d love to have him. But until the wings can take the body playing defense they aren’t going anywhere. Flipping your stick at the puck and skating away from the play ain’t gonna do it.
Who the hell cares if he’s a true first line center? He knows what’s going on in the room – I don’t care if it’s the water boy, it’s good that he spoke up
Larkin was crying. If he wants Yzerman to buy at deadline as the captain he needs to show he can lead a team that doesn't crumble and choke every time the team plays a meaningful game.
Yzerman knows what he doing. I'm sure he's frustrated it's taking longer than he expected. There is a ton of promising talent as he has replenished the system.
It's possible to be right and completely out of line. Larkin is right to be frustrated but taking it public in this fashion is absolute bull. Especially since he essentially never returned from the 4-Nations. He's not a Captain.
I for one am not happy with this process but I do question how much of Yzerman’s hands are tied. Is Chris Ilitch willing to spend big money and give long term contracts for big time good players? Does he have the drive like his dad had to win, because there’s something to be said when you build a business from scratch to become a billionaire compared to getting handed the keys to the billionaire estate. It seems like when kids of the owners take over there isn’t the same type of drive to win at all cost. It would be interesting to see, did Tampa Bay go out and pay big money for big name players to mix in with young talent when Yzerman was the GM. Also, The Lions would be the exception to the owner having the drive to win at all cost, it took Ford Sr to die in order for the Lions to be really good.
Cozens was the only player worth going after and now that we know the price, it wasnt worth it. Trade deadline is not where you build but solidify and they werent in the place. Free agency is coming. Well see
Larkin was only given the C because he was the "best" good player on a talentless team. In fact that is how he received his contract. Not a leader. But glad he did call out Yzerman because this rinse and repeat every year is stale and picks and prospects are never guaranteed.
It seems like Four Nations would be a huge distraction considering it's right at the time when teams should be laser focused on a play-off push or fighting for play-off positioning.
It’s one thing saying it to the boss, but it’s another thing to bring it to the media and have the whole world see it is another. With saying that, if he has already brought it to Steve that’s another story.
Trade deadline is NOT when you make your grab. The ask is almost always too high. Off-season free agency is where you can make right decisions. It’s time for a real difference maker in free agency this offseason! One on the blue line and one forward. Then show out on your draft pieces
This was a display of whining by a crybaby. He's sitting home crying that Yzerman didn't bring in some White Knight to get his team into a playoff spot. 😂 Compare him to Montreal's Captain who first to hos GM and stated they would make the playoffs so don't sell. Then he put his team on his back and carried rhem into the playoffs. Which one is a real leader?
This goes all the way back when the Red Wings had the opportunity to take Quinn Hughes at number 5 in the draft they passed and he went number 6 totally ridiculous.
Think it’s a bit of both. This also misses the context of him being asked on the future of the team. He’s essentially saying he don’t care about current draft picks cause it’s not like he’ll be playing with them which is very true. He’s concerned with the now.
What a dumb thing to say – “put on your big boy pants and go get it done.” So you’re expecting 5 guys to carry an entire team??? 2/5 who are still developing and becoming stars? This team needs help. They NEED depth scoring and do not have that. They NEED solid defensemen across all lines, not just one. Larkin isn’t being soft, he’s identifying and calling out something this team needs.

Can you blame Larkin for the frustration…. nothing has changed
Larkin messaging Yzerman!? After he disappeared after the Four Nations!? YGBFKM!🤣
Yzerman should be gone if he don’t make playoffs next year. He never pulls the trigger on any moves that can upgrade team
How long did it take for the wings to rebuild with a young Steve yzerman ,?

Move on from Yzerman. The only job he should hold is a scout. Draper the was room attendant.

Larkin has to go. Leaders don't do that

Then Kane went and refuted what he said 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. This team has problems.

Not surprised that no one mentioned that Larkin also criticized himself in the same interview.

Larkin needs to be better. But lwts be honest. 2 a number 2 center. And he needed to call yzerman out too. They both need to be better

Just saying.
I love it about time some speaks up. I sick of all his bad deals and poor FA signing. Steve needs move up in the organization and give a new GM

All these Stevebots in the comments 😂😂

Larkin is the captain then act like a captain, be the spark , be a leader , we had the help , we have the defense,
Omg , look how long it took yazerman in tampa
