I think stutzle got too used to playing without tkachuk and having to defend himself. Then he got out of hand.
If ullmark has another bad game can we go to leevi ?
1. Highmore shot into the sun. He's unfit for the ECHL, let alone the Stanley Cup playoffs. Enough is enough.
2. Giroux demoted to a Michal Handzus type role, as faceoffs are just about the only thing he's good at these days.
3. Roll 3 lines fairly evenly, sprinkle in the 4th line.

Highmore was on the ice for all Leafs PP goals except the 2 man advantage and cost us a goal with that deflection from the Reilly shot from the blue line. First of all what on earth is he doing on the PK unit and second why is he even playing period. He's an AHL level hockey player he's an anchor to that 4th line. I pray Cousins is back next game but if he's injured and can't play bring up a better Bottom 6 player from Belleville cause Highmore isn't it I'm done with him.
I'm not worried unless we lose one at home. If we get this series to game 7, the Leafs will choke and lose it as usual.
Biggest Ottawa mistake last night was trying to set the tone in the last 5 minutes. I think Ottawa had as good a chance on winning if it wasnt for the powerplays. And as a Leaf fan here…big reason Ottawa dominated play in Toronto was because Reaves was not dressed. I bet you half of those Ottawa players would not have been acting as tough knowing that the toughest player in the game was not Tkachuk. But because of the last 5 minutes…Berube dressing reaves next game is only to Leafs advantage. A lot wont agree with me but Reaves has as much psychological effect than star players and thats for both Toronto and Ottawa. Toronto has more skill..thats their advantage…Ottawa has more grit. You cannot out skill Toronto but Ottawas grit can be dealt with….Reaves!!!

Leafs fan coming in peace, nice pod! Interesting to hear your guys' perspective on game 1. The import of advanced stats has been a big topic in Toronto, they've gone away from it this year. Keefe –> Berube & Dubas –> Treliving has been a big philosophy change in that regard. The idea is that "Playoff" hockey does not equal good advanced stats. You need to go to the middle of the ice to have success.
The Sens remind me a bit of the early Matthews era teams. Those teams never figured out how to win the battles for the middle of the ice. Maybe Ottawa can..Thanks for the content and good luck the rest of the way!
Stolarz was good but he wasn't great by any means, This was another of many games where the Sens run up the shot clock with shots that are straight at the goalies

Brady didn’t look 100%. Ullmark is not looking anywhere close to a Vézina goalie. Chabot is overrated. He improved offensively but not so much defensively.
Sens need to exploit the 5 forward PP unit of the Leafs. They have the speed and have scored a ton of SHG this year. Can the two guys "playing D" on that unit defend if need be?

I was a jr hockey trainer for years the knob on Stolarz stick is legal and it’s for poke checks.
I'm not surprised at all by last nights results. I was nervous as hell and I was only watching so I can't imagine how the players felt. These guys are kids. Learn everything they can about last night and get ready for game 2. Going back to Ottawa tied 1-1 would be huge!!
