  1. Sharks desperately need opportunistic snipers and power forwards to dominate the net front. Maybe Musty will grow into such a role in 2 years. The path to the top of the NHL is a long and winding road, not a zippy stairway to heaven. Sharks development team is now the key to shaping a large group of elite prospects into a special team. Mike Grier is aiming for a team identity that is competitive, rugged, smart, large size and aggressive. The change over in player personnel is speeding the team in direction Mike Grier wants, but it takes time to break away from the bottom of NHL standings. Did I catch it right at end of interview that Musty's nickname is "Q"? From all these new faces and rookie energy, a team identity will emerge with chemistry and winning ability if the coaching staff does their job efficiently and judiciously. But will Sharks fans be patient enough to witness the slow process and not put extra pressure on fragile egos and player self-respect? Re-building an NHL team is a morality play from the perspective of the GM and he must make sure he is consistent in rewarding and punishing the right players in the process. When the GM makes big mistakes (such as by fetishizing size in players over other qualities such as aggressiveness), the whole process fails and you have to start over again with a new GM undoing the mistakes of his predecessor for years.

  2. Hey Brodie and Quentin,
Thanks for this conversation. You know they are my favorite. Its great to get to know the guys a little bit particularly now that the Sharks have focused hard on rebuilding from within. We have such a plethora of talented young men like you Quentin that it is very exciting for long term fans like me.

I am very excited to see you up with the Cuda and hope you and your teammates have a very successful run this play off. All my best to you Quentin as you start this next chapter in your career man.
