It took long enough…

It took long enough, but Greg Cronin is out as Ducks head coach — and honestly, I’m more relieved than I was when Eakins or Brown were fired. This video breaks down why it had to happen, despite a 21-point improvement and some bright spots from the young core. From questionable lineups to locker room tension and ugly team metrics, it was clear Cronin wasn’t the guy to lead Anaheim forward. Verbeek made a real choice here, not just a formality. The next coach? We’ll get into that in a future video — but for now, hit like, subscribe, and let’s talk about it. #nhl #hockey #anaheimducks

  1. I dont think Rick Toccett is going to resign with the Vancouver Canucks so I think he might make a good option but honestly there's quite a few choices available. It's just finding the right one that fits the style of play and what direction he wants to take us in. Hopefully someone good but I won't say Cronin was a bad coach, I just think he wasn't fully equipped to handle getting us over the hill so to speak. But as a developmental coach he did well. Zegras is better with his 2 way game, Carlsson and Mctavish are more aggressive on the rush and making smarter choices when taking shots on net. Cutter is looking better than the first half of the season and being more aggressive in front of the net and getting to the rebounds. I'd say it was a good learning experience overall and we did see individual progress improve. But as far as being able to take them into playoff contention, I don't think would've gotten very far as much as I hate to say it. Our offense has taken a hit in the last few years although a little bit better than it has been. It's not good enough to get far. We shall see in the next few weeks what ends up happening

  2. “My season tickets are saved!” That’s exactly how I feel. I told my season ticket rep in February that if Zegras were traded while Cronin was still the coach I wouldn’t renew. Now I can actually hope for Z to be PPG player for the Ducks, and with the right coach, maybe even see playoffs in Anaheim in the next year or 2.

  3. Now they need to get Richard Clune out of there like PRONTO. Despite only having one year of coaching experience at the AHL level, the Ducks hired this guy and handed the keys to the power play over to him — and looked how that worked out. The power play looked terrible all season, and it has nothing to do with the skill level of the players. They would just fart around with the puck waiting for that perfect pass across the crease and then before you know it, power play was over. It was hard to watch. With so many highly skilled guys like Carlsson, Terry, McTavish, Zegras, Lacombe, Gauthier, and Vatrano, it's an absolute disgrace that the power play was so damn bad.

  4. How many coaches are gonna get fired? At what point is it the GM’s or owners fault for bad hires?…

  5. Despite Cronin I’ve been happier with the ducks direction over the past few years than the Angels. Hopefully we get a better coach that actually cares and we can get right next season! Looking forward to hearing the candidates!

  6. LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE GOOO DML!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont know what to say, just let my smile do the talking =)

  7. Said it when he was hired. 3 year max only here to tighten up fundamentals on both sides for the younger core. Now we look for an aggressive coach, go after Mitch Marner, shave some dead weight, reconfigure lines and push this baby to the max. Let’s get it quacken 25-26.

  8. As a Preds fan, I think our current coach (Brunette) would be a great coach for the Ducks. Our team is terrible, but he has a system that’s all about young, fast, offense that flies to the puck…. Everything that this Preds team isn’t since we’re now one of the oldest team in the league. We need a more traditional coach like Rick Tocchet or Mike Sullivan.

  9. I’m sure I’m the only one but why not a former Duck like Scotty, he can bring on Teemu, Paul and Ruch on the staff and jiggy as goalie coach let not assume things won’t know unless they try can’t always judge on past players coaching styles everyone past player or pro coach deserves a chance at least

  10. When I saw the black background with the Ducks logo on the front, I thought someone died ngl

  11. It seems ducks fans had the same reaction to this as I, a sharks fan had to hearing we let georgiev go lol
Cali is stacking up on two dangerous looking young teams and im here for it

  12. I have to return to an old topic. With Fowler playing the Ducks were prorated to a 49 point season. Much of the improvement can be attributed to getting him and his passive play off the ice.

Addition by subtraction, which is exactly Cronin as well.

  13. Makes me wonder if any of the players went to the GM, hopefully not Dostal, he's dealing with enough, but maybe Gibson or the Captain? I hope it was the Captain.

  14. The new coach needs to let Zegres be Zegres. Cronin did turn around his defensive game which was badly needed. Zegres needs to go back to shooting and not looking to pass so much.

  15. Wow! Finally management didn’t repeat insanity by keeping the same coach expecting different results! Things are looking up!

  16. Plenty of good leadership in that organization, he should've been fired in January. The team is fun to watch but they're not a good team.
