Okay, as the season winds down, I wanted to take a look at the job done by Allvin since becoming GM in January of 2022.

Despite all the crap the Canucks went through this season, it’s astonishing that we’re only going to miss the playoffs by 2 or 3 points. I believe Hughes when he says that we’re 2 pieces away from being a true contender.
They can be good next year if Petey recovers, keep Pius, and sign some top 6 wingers. I will miss Boeser and support him all the way. He was the guy that helped resurrect the team after the Sedins were done. I am a huge fan.
This Bald guy has screwed our franchise and so has the other bald guy JR
The owner is a major part of this problem. Maybe the biggest part. This team stinks
Pls keep THATCHER DEMKO and BROCK BOESER
Honestly, I've been a fan for 35 years. Been a STH for 10 and was close to cancelling this year but missed the deadline to do so. I will say this, as an avid fan: Fu** the Vancouver Canucks man.
Where is the consistency? Where is the core that is supposed to take us to continual contendership? Why is it every seaosn we get one coach in and the next another one out.
Ownership needs to look in the mirror and realize, over he past 15+ years, there's only been one constant, them.
Quit toiling with our hearts. Either be great or be shit. It's your choice. Stop this middling BS.
Canack lost OT games five more wins would have been big help. Raty,Marcini,Chitel, Oconnor are big help. Petey should have been shot down four three weks to work on fitness. Demko was hurt what can you do. Young Karlsson ,Aman ,Muller are ready for NHL.
Markus Pettersson is big help. Size in push back was the biggest reason of down year.
"top 20 disappointing seasons" is extremely fitting for the Canucks
Canucks need to leave Vancouver and move their curse somewhere else. 55 years of below mediocrity.
Holy shiitake mushrooms, almost forgot he traded FIVE (5) pieces for a rental in Lindholm 💀 Kuzy deserved to stay, he loved it here and we loved him. He was such a positive figure on the bench. Will never forget the Banana/Pepsi combo that had EP40 shaking his head 😂
One good thing I can say about Allvin and his work as the Canucks GM is that at least he's not signing every shiny thing (AKA Big Name Free Agents) available like Jim Benning.
Suter, Lankinen and Sherwood were all great bargain signings…but the Miller trade was awful- and the Pettersson trade wasnt great value. Hes a good 2nd pairing dman- but a good 1st plus prospects for him? Soucy only got a 3rd- i dont see that big a gap in their play. And if Heinen wasnt living up to what his contract paid him…why trade him for O Connor- and then overpay him? 2.5 for a 4th liner isnt cheap. Canucks prospect list is thin AF, and Allvin is giving away picks like their lazy Miller back passes.
Love when Shannon talks about the Canucks hell yeah
I feel like allvin is good but ownership has his nuts tied in piano wire. I don’t have an insider source with ownership and him, but it seems like he’s smart enough to make the right moves (last year) but he doesn’t. I would attribute it personally to ownership stopping him
I would love the full tampering thoughts video you alluded to at the 9:30 mark
Idk, the Pettersson collection is looking pretty good. I'd say job well done
Patrik ALVIN needs to be fired for giving Elias PETTERSSON a 11.5/yr contract. Canucks literally got scammed
0/10 That Petterson contract was trash. Overpaid every Swedish player. At this point, I will not be a Canucks fan til all the Swedes are gone. Hughes is leaving because of how much Petey is overpaid.
I live in San Jose. Saw the Canucks play at San Jose twice. Also went to New Jersey and Long Island to watch the Canucks play. Those games in NJ and NY were exciting and very satisfying. It was a disappointing season, but not a complete disaster.
I don't like the draft trading at all ! I don't like the open talk with the media. I don't like seeming lack of respect shown a lot of players eg. Boeser and Suter
also I absolutely HATED the Horvat trade and subsequent Hronek for what was essentially Sandin-Pellikka. They could solidified the D for a decade to come instead Hronek is hit n miss most games and always seems to leave me wanting more from him.
Melvin sucks.
The Horvat trade wasn’t good and a mistake. Lindholm is another mistake, way too costly. Sending draft picks away is also many mistakes. The rest of his decisions are mainly iffy at best. I don’t see any moves by Canucks management that could be considered a home run. Bottom line, failure on all levels. I don’t blame it on Allvin I blame it all on Fredo. He’s the Canucks problem, always has been.
Pettersson #40 hurt this team this season
Im not surprised Tom Willander doesn't want to sign his ELC. He doesn't want to be a Canuck. Why would he? They fucking suck. They're a dog water franchise. A loser franchise with mentally and physically fragile players. Inconsistent and mediocre on the ice. It's a toxic and drama filled environment from the fans to the media to the locker room to front office, all over. Why would he want to go to a black hole of a franchise, and to play with who? Cause other than Quinn Hughes there is no leadership and no character in that group. You can't even trust our scouts to make good draft picks most of the time. We get lowballed in trades and laughed at by the other teams, we're always negotiating from a place of weakness.
I’ve been impressed with the AHL players so far. Atu Ratu, D petey and lakerimaki ( I hope I spelled his name correctly) were all showing amazing performances. I hope I get to see them more permanently in the lineups.
Allvin's biggest problem is how he speaks about his players in the media. I think that's partly due to how blunt Swedish people in general are. It's a cultural thing in pretty much every Scandinavian country but it can be taken the wrong way by North American media. YOU CAN'T sound like a 40 goal scorer and your longest tenured player isn't wanted by your franchise and has no major perceived value by the rest of the league when it comes to talking about him. Even if that's the harsh reality of it all.
Miller is on his fourth team.
Had all offseason to deal with his mental issues and did not.
If Petey is walking out on his team when he’s 33 years old I’ll change my perspective on what went down.
BTW Soucey is not missed he was horrible.
So let's say that Allvin and Rutherford started with 6 pieces (Demko, Boeser, Miller, Pettersen, Horvat and Hughes). Where are we now? Demko=probably done. Boeser=gone for free. Miller=essentially turned a 100 point guy into a 3-4 dman (M. Pettersen). E. Pettersen=$12million for 15 goals. Horvat=turned him into #2 dman (Hronek). All that is left is Hughes and once again, the default setting for the franchise has returned to its default setting for mediocrity.
Vancouver ownership is THE #1 reason they will never win. Until new ownership this franchise will be 💩
need my girl to look at me the way The Hockey guy looks at the canucks
Fired GM and coach bad trade for Kuz , POD, ZAD and Lindholm for nothing
7.8/10, can’t quite give an 8.
Good:
-Trades. Makes a lot of them, generally gets good value. If they made a mistake on a player not afraid to trade them and move on.
-Contracts. Other than a couple outliers (eg Desharnais) most signing in the fair to good category.
-Pro Scouting. Overall far more hits than misses.
-Future Direction. Youngsters in E Pettersson, Willander,, Mancini, Lekkerimaki and Raty on the verge in putting their stamp on this team. Have a solid group coming up together via Abbotsford ranks. Team has gotten considerably younger in the top third of youngest teams in the league.
-Identify. Keeping in mind the “major surgery” comments when they came in, this is now firmly Allvin and Rutherford’s team. Most of the team has been turned over.
The team is younger, the defence has been largely rebuild with a group of mobile and big rangey dmen. Next up is rebuilding the forward group particularly on wing- I think they will favour speed and size particularly through the neutral zone.
Bad:
-Giving away picks/1st Round picks
-Handling of JT Miller situation. That dragged on publicly far too long like a black cloud over the team. Unlike the other things that went wrong with this team (injuries to Hughes, Pettersson, Boeser, Hronek, Demko for stretches this year, Joshua recovering from cancer) which was out of their control, the handling of the Miller situation was in their control and if dealt with more swiftly could have been the difference to them making the playoffs rather than narrowly missing.
Great video Shannon really in depth. More or less agree with your evaluation
I follow the Canucks and the NY Jets. I must be nuts since the teams have the worst owners in the NHL & NFL. Neither team will win a championship until the teams are sold.
Suter, Sherwood and d petey have been very key to winning games. Petey may require some physio and psychotherapy. If Quinn Hughes doesn't re sign I wonder what the return is. This will be Allvins' biggest moment
This is the time! The Canucks MUST build a Cup contender while 43 is in his prime. Time to take off the rose coloured glasses and admit EP40 is what he looks like – under qualified to take us all the way. I saw him in Penticton…that SHOT! (now gone) He's not physically up to the task. Trade him.
Demko – trade him. Damaged. Sad but…trade. Boeser is also too slow, too invisible, too often too expensive, to keep.
We need 2, high IQ, fast forwards – roster studs that are not happy where they are (Rangers, Bruins, etc) to see we can win a Cup with Hughes. The time is now for a BIG TRADE. Tick..tick.
A lot of these trades haven’t really aged very well… 2024 was their chance with Miller, Lindholm, Zadorov. Just a year later and they are all gone and the team is out of the playoffs. Also the possibility of losing Boeser for nothing. Idk if I’m overall happy with what this management has accomplished. Trading away 1st round picks and missing the playoffs is not a good look.
You look AWESOME in the true Canucks gear.

Great analysis.👍👍
