Jeff Marek: Does management get a mulligan on this season? Trust level with EP40

Jeff Marek stops by with thoughts on what management would do if it got a mulligan on this season and whether they fall on the sword later this week when they meet the media. Jeff wonders about the Canucks’ trust-level with Pettersson because of the rare step to publicly ask him to train in Vancouver this summer. He also says Tocchet’s future is priority #1 and needs to be resolved soon.

  1. In answer to your thumbnail question, it depends on what they trust him to do. If its to justify his pay by scoring the goals to match, then no. If its to go through scoring slumps for months on end, avoid body contact on the ice, and just generally be a low impact player, then yes they can trust him.

  2. fucking bum went ghost before the ink on his franchise record contract was even dry
the fact that he didnt put in work last summer after such a worthless 2nd half of the season and awol for playoffs is disgusting.
    read between the lines.
management is basically saying , stay in town , show us you're committed in the gym and train harder then you ever have or you're gone at the draft.

  3. Easy question to answer, look at EP40 track record this yr , last yr, management very good at trade away young guns for players that don't want to be here , raising game tickets prices

  4. The Canucks season was over when management traded Miller instead of #40. What a blunder by Rutherford and Allvin.

  5. Does the CBA allow Canucks staff to train with EP40? I thought there was some kind of fine for that? I figure he was injured through a chunk/most of the summer and apparently trained with a not-the-best group in Stockholm, instead of his usual training place before. I'd rather he train with the Hughes family.

  6. question for Mr.Allvin, Going into last season what made him think the"miller/Petterson" issue, was solved? that is when the trade had to be made.

  7. It wasn't management's fault on the locker room feud between JT and Pety. If anything, it was a miracle to get rid of Miller when he handcuffs you to ONE team(NY Rangers). If they couldn't get rid of Miller, they would have had to get rid of Pety for peanuts, because he's had an awful year on a max term $11.6mil/season contract…

  8. We hear this with every perennial loser team with a lot of high picks and young stars ………then all those young players get off the elc's and get massive contracts and they end up toiling in mediocrity. It's like clockwork

  9. Canucks will be fine. Team is much younger and also bigger. Added bit more speed. Youth from Abby has done well. Net guys are very good. Willander signs it's all well.

  10. We start the year with Raty instead of Miller and Junior instead of Soucey we would have been rocking by turkey day.
We are way better now than we were last year.
    Younger and hungrier.

  11. Ep40 is not a leader, has limited drive, and is injury prone. Also, he is kinda soft. The only reason for signing with the van is not for the love of the team or the love for the game. This was a money move. Nucks aren't going nowhere with this guy.

  12. they are offering EP an opportunity, had 100 point seasons repeated we wouldn't be here, but we are. Forward thinking and focused, buy in to your best our best or not, I'd tell him this is your decision Elias, this is what we want for both of our equal success. We see a direct path to re-establish your eliteness in the greatest league and how we can build a winner with you. It's time to reboot, relaunch our team and stars. You and Quinn are the guys here. It has to be a turning point for all of us as of now. Oh yeah, your NTC is live JULY 1st in the long term contract we both signed. It's our team's future AND your career ARC. WHAT SAY YOU?
