Fitting end to their season. Leafs played possum until the very end…then bam!
Goal tending is ass, has been a heel and you can't convince me otherwise. Defensive lapse is one thing but the easy shit goals allowed have been at a premium the whole season. You know your going to get break downs but still you are sloppy and shit to the end. The end shows why we didn't make the playoffs, we most likely would have bounced in round one but all of the goalies on this roster are back up goalies at best. Five on five is a massive problem but the PK was a joke, the core is there but the supporting cast is fail and you can't deny it. I understand that Stevie is drafting for a longer haul but it still hurts that this team digressed. The wings have not been contenders for well over a decade and it is old. The ownership in it's current state is a problem,will continue to be and they make massive profits regardless of the product. Next year absolutely has to be better.
This last game was a perfect snapshot of the Red Wings season.

Well guys, place your money on no playoffs for the next couple years, as Holl and Tarasenko are both signed through next year. This team sucks, can't even beat a team when they have nothing to play for. How can Yzerman look at this team and go "yep right on track, this is what I built and I'm content for now" Like holy shit the productivity on the ice is so bad. It wasn't previlant tonight until TOR decided they wanted to win, but when we were in the hunt against teams like OTT and MTL, we really shat the bed. If this is what Yzerman thinks "competing for a wildcard spot" is he might need to get his head checked, either that or take a special needs test because something up there isn't firing right. This is not a good team, the only reason we were even in contention was the whole division and conference is so fucking bad. Make or break offseason for Yzerman, because when the playoff streak hits double digits even his most loyal Yzerbot fans will turn on him, or at least I hope they do for the wellbeing of the team….

For several seasons fans have banged the table for Copp to be bought out or traded. He goes down and that absence did them in. Over paid? Yes. Vital ingredient? Also, yes. The perfect example of the importance of depth. One guy goes down and the only person that could fill that 2C had to be moved off the first line. Lost Larkin for 7 games last season in March, same result. Depth is key. Development is key. Keep your eyes on the big picture.

This team couldn't put together any effort against a team that was literally going half speed and playing their bottom half. They have an effort problem, they've had all season and for all his cute catchphrases Todd didn't do a damn thing to fix it either. They're absolutely hopeless.
It’s a kind of interesting dynamic at the moment. Many of us are wanting Wings to make the playoffs as a kind of point of principle, like progress should be completely linear and if they don’t make the playoffs it’s a fail. We all saw what the end product looked like when it became a point of principle to make the playoffs every year under Holland. I do still have faith in the process but some of the mistakes this season are hard to row back from – least of all the delay in making a coaching change.

Fully lapped by LA, Ottawa, and Montreal in the rebuild race.
Literally anyone could deliver a team to the playoffs in what will now be 10 years. GM's around the league would profusely salivate if given that much time. We've been fed the "takes time" argument for 9 years. Past time to kick that to the curb along with our GM. Lousy signings, draft picks languishing in the minors too long, WTF? Tired of it all.

This was a typical Wings loss. This team has some great players in Mo, Lucas & Cat. Edvinson & Casper have a very good chance of reaching that level. Lark is certainly a terrific hockey player but not the super star that many had hoped for. Johannsenj is very solid and should continue to improve.Kane is a future hall of famer and the Wings still need his presence and quiet leadership. Thank you guys. Ray L

You can't form expectations for an upcoming season prior to free agency. Sure, it's easy to expect the team to make the playoffs, but you're looking at a team get fleshed out in free agency. So this team probably exceedd expectations for me. While I'm interested in seeing where we're gonna draft, I'm deeply interested in free agency, and even whether we make any front office or bench changes.
I could be wrong, but is there not a very low number of Canadian born players currently on the roster. Might be a good idea to add a few more…
Brian, you said it perfectly; they need to swing for the fence this off-season. No more singles. The current Wings lack anb established superstar. It is not fair to put that presser on Mo & Lucas. They are young stars and will continue to rise.
I think we need to focus on stamina in the offseason. We do great in the first two periods but just lose steam late in the games and that’s not going to win games or get us deep in the playoffs. The boys have to want it, and give it 110% and I only see some of the guys like Cat and Raymond maybe spots of shine from the others, but Larkin just seems to have lost his confidence.

I'm really disappointed that they sent Nygard and ASP to GR. Montreal immediately played Demidov… Washington played Leonard, Edmonton played the elder Hutson brother.
If we keep sending good prospects/players to GR (another staple of the Holland era that needs to go) until they're overripe, the Wings are going to keep missing the playoffs and losing games.
Meanwhile Ken Holland, former GM, Dan Sprong, Adam Erne, David Perron, Phil Hronek, Shayne Gostisbehere and a few more will be playing in the playoffs.
Another season, zero Red Wings playoffs at LCA. About $150 million in lost revenue per playoff run. During the regular season, the Bettman League of Money, I mean the NHL, keeps the lionshare of the ticket sales and concessions. But, the teams keep the majority of playoff revenue for team building and facility maintenance and extras from the playoff cash, which can generate up to $200 million per run. Money for the future aside, what will the future bring? Another year of the "Yzerplan" and mediocre retirement age players fighting a geriatric run alongside young talented players who have little hope for a Stanley Cup in Detroit? Sure, the Wings will win another cup, but that could be 43 years from now or in 2 seasons. I feel bad for guys like Larkin, who put it all out there and will have to be traded to a contender for a chance to hoist silver.
Hockey players are basically uneducated, failing to just fall on the puck against the boards with about 15-20 seconds left would have been just basic hockey good sense. So what if a penalty gets called? You can't let the opponent get the puck in front of your net. Stupidity by the players on the ice, but what can you expect from Yzerclown, an uneducated person in the flesh. It's like the stupid leading the stupid. Yikes!!!
I keep thinking about our prospects and wonder why we can't play our kids( san jose, Montreal) like other teams? Worst case scenario, they get NHL experience and end up in epic draft position (san jose).
