The Edmonton Oilers didn’t meet expectations | One playoff run can change the narrative forever

The Edmonton Oilers entered the NHL season as betting favorites to capture the Stanley Cup. But an up and down regular season has the Oilers about to start on the road in the playoffs for the first time in the Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl era.

With such high expectations, host Nick Zararis explores if they were realistic to begin with, how much they matter in relation to playoff ambitions, what players helped pull their own weight and who needs to have a strong postseason.

  1. If I were making a bracket today, I'd bank on the 2-3 matchups going long due to how the Oilers and Stars are playing currently. That can only benefit Winnipeg and Vegas.

I'm with you on the East as a whole; I don't take anybody seriously other than the Lightning and Panthers.

  2. Kings fan : I don’t want any kings to seek revenge! Because I’m not that kinda person , and I don’t believe the Kings are that kind of team ! However! It’s nice to know that if a king does decide to be a duechebag and cross check mcdavid or dra in the back of the head and then do it again while he’s down on th3 ice prone and caus3 injury,…the consequences will only be a one game suspension! Or did nurse get off so f ing light ! They coulda at the very least made it one post season game !

  3. Skinner 50 GP- 25-18-4 GGA-2.87 SV% 0.894 Is not a great recipe to win a Cup, Now you lose your #1 D. They are older, smaller, slower and beat up. I think LA in 6, If they get by LA, no way they get through a 2nd round !! This team isn't near as good as last's years !!

  4. You just say only Tampa and Florida, fuck man have you watched any hockey ????? The Leaf's are this year definitely a Cup Contender !!! Right now they're best team in the East this past month!!! Won their for Atlantic Division !!! Dam man watch them play !!!

  5. If we put the Leaf's and Oiler's right now in a 7 game series, the Leaf's would sweep them in 4, they are that good !!!

  6. It's important to note the team is getting way older and I think they're very close to a rebuild in 2-3 years time as the main 2 age out. Very below expectations this season.

Draisatl A+ carried the team all year, best season defensively of any Oiler Centre ever. If the team was going or if they still had the players Jackson gave away he may have had 70+ goals.
Nurse A Back in form from 2 years ago, played very good just about every game this season. Very consistent.
Perry A 40 years old, 18 goals, 5-6 fights doing more than anyone could expect of him.
Brown A- Playing excellent hockey, fast, great on the forecheck, excellent PKer, and has hit his stride late in the season.
Pickard B+ played way above expectation, was the better goalie all year.
Stetcher B+ Played excellent as a 5th-6th D man all year, played himself into a playoff spot.
Podkolzin B+ Doing everything except score goals, durable, hits, produces offense 5-0n-5 and decent defensively.
Kulak B Fairly consistent, played great for large portions of the season. Filled in in bigger roles often.
Walman B A nice add, good offensive defenseman.
Bouchard B- Has had glimpses here and there but has mostly underproduced this year and mistakes have attributed to many a fan disliking his game. Still a top end offensive defensemen in the league.
Klingberg C+ Not terrible, not great, somewhere in the middle.
Arvidson C+ Has played good when healthy, still has a very good 2 way game. Has had synergy with Podkolzin. Playing his best hockey near the end of the season.
J Skinner C+ Took some time to buy into to playing a 2way game. Played fairly well when he got some ice time.
Henrique C+ Lost a step, PK has definitely felt that. Can still have glimpses here and there but 12 goals on as the 3C most of the year is under producing.
MacDavid C+ Worst season since his rookie year. Maybe coasting for the playoffs but under-produced most of the year, lack of scoring, now playing on the road for 4 consecutive rounds.
Kapanen C Has look excellent at times and has looked weak at times. As inconsistent as this team.
Emberson C Came on strong but started to fade and really played himself off of the roster at times. Playing a little better at the end of the season.
RNH C Filled in some in nice spots as a 3C but he hurt the PP and the first like early in the season.

Hyman C Had a good month but has been either hurt, inconsistent or just not producing goals nearly what he's expected to.
Ekholm C Good at the beginning of the year for the most part, hurt or sick all year. When he came back at times wasn't the same.
S Skinner C- Struggled to find his game most of the season. Has had a couple of very nice stretches. Most of his game is dictated by the defensive consistency in front of him.
Janmark D- Has he played a good game this year? Maybe the odd game?

  7. Well, I'm not sure what to think and won't until after game 2. What I do know is – both McDavid and Draisaitl are going into the playoffs rested and 100% healthy. I also know they are the two best players in the world, and the Kings have some very very good players, but not one of them are even an 'A' tier player, nevermind an 'S" tier. LA Kings do have a lot more 'B' tiers than we do though no doubt about that, and well, in goal Keumper would be an 'A' tier and Skinner a 'C' tier that could be the difference. As I said, we'll see after game two where we are at.

  8. Id have more confidence in the oilers if we had McLeods 50 pnts, Holloways 60pnts, Foegeles 46pnts up front and Brobergs 29pnts comin from the blueline
