Does the punishment fit the crime for Darnell Nurse?

Darnell Nurse has been suspended one game for his cross-check to the head of Kings forward Quinton Byfield on Monday night. Does the punishment fit the crime? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined SC with Jay Onrait to discuss.

  1. “For the most part the DoPS does a good job”

How does craig button still have a job?

  2. If I'm an LA King & I see McDavid or Draisaitl in a similar spot (facedown against the ice) I'm cross checking them right in the neck. In the playoffs it'll be about a 5K fine! Beyond idiotic he doesn't miss a playoff game, or two.

  3. A one-game suspension slapped on Darnell Nurse may seem light but that headshot was vicious, stupid, dangerous and 100% unnecessary. On-ice officials around the NHL know that he’s been slapped with a suspension and likely will, if assigned to referee a game during the upcoming Oilers-LA. Kings series, watch him quite a bit more closely.

  4. Nurse cries when Reaves knocks his head off with a hit and complains about trying to hurt players and then turns around and does this! A hypocrite Moron.

  5. Absolute joke. Hate to reach too far back but we all remember never suspended or even fined, Mark Scheifele getting a 4 game suspension during the play offs for a big bodycheck, while Darnell Nurse, previously suspended THREE times and fined as well, gets ONE meaningless game for crosschecking a defenseless player to the back of the head onto the ice surface after the play had ended. Bizarrre.

  6. Soooo nurse gets suspended but if a canucks player gets hurt on a dirty play the other guy gets nothing….clown league with a clown in charge of player safety

  7. Whether he deserves a suspension or not ( should have got a minimum 2/3 imo ), what message was actually sent to him. He would have been scratched to rest for the final game anyway. Like giving a criminal house arrest and a Netflix subscription, Parros is a joke

  8. I'm fine with only one game because really, it's more of a punishment to the Oilers the longer he stays in the line up then in the press box.

  9. Hartman got 10 games for less… if the league was consistent this would be 12-15. But we all know the league needs to give Edmonton the best chance to not flop so they can keep trying to convince us all that McDavid is the best player we've ever seen.

  10. The Oilers would’ve only been lucky if it was seven games I don’t know how you guys don’t see nurse fucking sucks

  11. Intent to injure and a history of suspensions including a headbutt to a teammate of Byfield back in 2022. Way to show the entire world you don't actually care about player safety, DoPS.

  12. I don't like TSN commentators. They are so full of themselves and are Bell Globe Media trash. The best commentators/analysts were Bob McKenzie, Michael Farber and Red Fisher from back in the day. Unless McKenzie appears from time to time on TSN, it isn't the same anymore.

  13. Oilers fan saying this – at the very least 3 game suspension. Actually, way more. He even hit the guy AGAIN when he was on the ground.

  14. This was an absolute disgrace of a punishment. Byfield is one of the brightest rising stars for the game and his career could have ended like Kariya's and Crosby's when they got concussed and Nurse only gets 1 game??? That 1 game is a meaningless game too. The dude should have been suspended minimum 8 games. This league is a joke! Let's go cross check McDavid or Draisaitl in the head twice and see if they only give you 1 game for that. No, they'd suspend you for 10.
