Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus 4-1-2025

Flyers Daily with Jason Myrtetus: Flyers wrapped up a 3 game homestand against the Predators and we breakdown the win. Plus we look at 3 key elements the Flyers will know going into the off-season and how those impact the strategy this summer. Subjects include the dynamic abilities of Matvei Michkov, development of Jamie Drysdale and the Goaltending plan of attack.

  1. Hey Jason, you seem like you're feeling better today! Q for you, if you can get to it…. with the talk from the front office to acquire the best- not the best available- in mind: would an offer sheet to Oettinger be in the realm of possibilities even if its tiny? What would compensation look like for him?
Biggest hurdle here IMO, is the player has to accept the offer sheet. while we could throw more money at him than DAL, I can't imagine an elite goalie in his early prime choosing money to come to a rebuilding Philly over a team in the top3-5 favorite for the cup that he was drafted by.
DAL seems to be entering that pre-cup bonanza TB stage of inexorably progressing (perfecting roster, gaining exp., learning hard lessons on what it takes) to winning one or more cups.

    KEEP UP THE FIGHT

  2. Also per our D corp these are my ideal pairings

    TOP PAIR
York-Sandy (shutdown, heavy mins, offensive/puck moving capabilities)

2A MATHCUP DEPENDENT use in games where the matchup favors less physical but better puck movers
Drys-Andrae (puck moving, quick, plus skating abilities) this is provided Andrae progresses in camp and looks closer to stint early this season.

2B (Use in phsyical games where more d-zone responsibility is needed (more talented, rough teams like FLA or some West Conf bullies)
    Seeler-Risto

  3. Jason, do you think torts had way too much of a focus on defense and didn't let the offense flow better? I know that the 3-game win streak is against lesser teams, their offense just seems better. Also, we still need a number 1 goalie, all of our goalies are back-ups, need a veteran. Last question, do you think if everything works out that the flyers will ever give Carter Heart another chance? Keep fighting cancer, #Jasonstrong. Dean from Tampa, lifelong flyers fan.

  4. Philly transplant in Tampa. Someone has been showing Michkov a lot of videos of Nikita Kucherov. He's now doing a lot of the same moves and racking up the helpers. Plus he's light years ahead of Kucherov at his age.

  5. Way to go Flyers with these useless wins. Flyers are on there overachieving, less Torts winning streak. This is why they have not won a cup in 50+ years. Its all about getting real talent in the draft. But these wins are so important. One player on the team Mich is all they have with some talent, offensive talent, his defense sucks. Flyers are the Cleveland Browns of the NHL.

  6. MM wins Calder by a mile if Torts was never HC. He should have been fired after LY collapse and I dont want to hear they have no talent. They have more then alot of these 7/8 seeds past 2 years. Just look at PP. If it was decent they make playoffs also

  7. The hell with tanking, I am over it, this is too much fun! I cannot stand being miserable. Give me a Flyers win any day! We got Michkov #7 so don’t get caught up in draft positioning isn’t everything. Love the Star Wars reference, Jason! Happy Belated Birthday as well!

  8. I don't think we need the big goalie move yet. We need a bridge guy that can play 40-50% of games with Ersson getting the rest. Despite the comment here, I think Jake Allen would be absolutely fine to step into a "Brian-Elliott-esque" role for a middle of the road, 2-year contract while our younger goalies (Bjarn, Zav) progress toward the pros. I like to think we will be better next year, but still not a playoff team – no need to make a big goalie splash and then drag that guy through this part of the rebuild. Gibson is definitely better but I suspect he is going to make a lot more money.
