TLD / Troy Lee Designs Stage MIPS full face enduro helmet first look / review

  1. I have one of the Bell DH convertible helmets, to be honest I've only used it once in the open face mode, full face is the way to go unless it's a light XC ride…

  2. Very good video, a lot of valuable and interesting information. But especially I would like to appreciate the quality of your recent videos – beautiful picture, great sound quality and on top of that you record everything solo 😳 good job!

  3. I went with a Bell Super Air R Full Face Helmet – 2 in 1. I ride without chin gaurd for XC, but go full face for any proper biking. Saved my face twice in one day in Finale Ligure. Not suitable if you are hitting big jumps or racing, but for me perfect.

  4. I find it hard to find the right fit for goggles and a full face via online. Locally there is not much to try out.

  5. I went for this helmet also, wish I had gone for D4 tho to be fair, id happily sacrifice some coolness and weight for more safety. Also the loop on the strap needs to be pushed right to the end to stop the strap getting bigger under pressure (hard to explain) which is annoying to do everytime.

  6. Will, way to go! I have fully committed to a 100% Aircraft 2. I ride horses as well and have to buy helmets for that too (just ordered a replacement following a fall). So, I can’t afford two bike helmets (first world problems?). And, head design is very much a thing. So, not being able in the uk to try on helmets easily (unlike the US) is an issue.

  7. Nice video! covers everything I wanted to know 1KG lighter than your other helmet (Yay!) £300! (Boo!) I'm temporarily wearing a £20 Decathlon lid whilst I look for a new FF, I like the idea of lightness and want to keep my teeth but there is a limit

  8. Yeah, there is a reason its one of the most popular helmets. Coverage, weight, ventilation, its all there

  9. Try a Gyro Switchblade, full DH rated, detachable chin bar for climbing, and definitely lighter than a full blown DH helmet. Might not be quite as light as the TLD one you're talking about here but I'd say its worth it for that extra level of protection, you can also currently pick one up for under £200.

  10. IXS Trigger FF is by far my favorite helmet. On my third one. Couple crashes and no issues with my skull. 🤣

  11. Olly Wilkins used to Live 10min Walk from Me when I Lived in Witley Surrey I Lost Mowing Job when the Wilkins Family Moved into House I Mowed Lawn We Both Went to Rodborough Secondary School he had 1 Teacher I Had School Named after Common where S4P Car Park. Is Olly did not no School named after Common until I sore him at Cycle show at Alley Palley London

  12. should be more careful with ticks they got upgrades and now carry a new line of diseases including one which makes you unable to eat meat or consume dairy products for life (a tech youtuber got it..not fun) it's called Alpha-gal syndrome

  13. I bought a sic Troy Lee camo jacket, but had to send it back because even their largest adult size wouldn’t fit a twig 😂

  14. Totally agree about quality… for a bit more money I bought my Arai for my motorcycle…. probably the best helmet in the world and handmade.…. I mean it’s ridiculous about the prices of some products… But you know, let’s say I am willing to pay that amount for this TLD…. At least, it should be better than perfect…

  15. Good content as usual Will, it’s always great to hear a non biased opinion on gear. I personally bought the giro switchblade, which does have some positives to it like the retention buckle you mentioned. Cons to it though would be the internal paddding decreases in size the more you use it, there isn’t differential pads. But, great airflow and the protection is offered is substantial, something I have experience with on more than one occasion. 🤟

  16. I think I got mine for £160 a while ago. Excellent helmet and stopped my neck aching like hell after a day biking. You're right with the no mesh in the mouth guard area. I find I get mud flicking up straight through that hole which isn't the greatest taste on earth. But the weight, comfort and usability including the fidlock strap make it taste a whole lot better than the severe neck ache of my previous TLD helmet.

  17. I will say that my IXS Trigger FF mips does not have any of those manufacturing defects. These helmets are like 300 bucks, they should not have any defects. I think the TLD and the IXS Trigger both have special / more difficult manufacturing process (to make them lighter, they have to be built in a very specific way), and that probably leads to the 300 tag for both. Also, is the TLD removable? Chin bar? I have only seen the models with removable chin bars experiencing the snaps. Also, lastly, the Trigger FF mips is fully DH rated. So, don't put it in the same category as the TLD. it has EN1078, CPSC, KC, ASTM certs. It is intended for DH.

  18. I did glue a piece of mesh (from a ripped up Osprey bag) inside the mouth vent of my IXS trigger FF you should try this hack big bike doesn't want you to know 😂

  19. I had the same quality issues with a carbon D4 – bubbling paint, chipped paint, excess polystyrene, flaking polystyrene etc. I bought it on sale, so thought for a moment about overlooking these, but returned it. Absolutely awful for a helmet with a RRP of £550, and would have been furious if I paid full price. Found an offer on a Bell Full 10 instead, and the quality is far superior, like night and day. Troy Lee have fallen off in recent years, and are relying on their brand and image to charge high prices. The quality just isn't there any more.

  20. I think modern lightweight full face helmets look rad and even on a trail bike the way people shred these days most people should wear one
