  1. Torts is a gem. Not a guy I’d want on my team but a fun guy to watch otherwise. He’s adamant about winning and old school and he never pretended to be otherwise. The Lu situation rests upon management/ownership not stepping in. Unfair to pin it on a guy who was obviously just doing what he thought would give his team their best chance to win

  2. Man next to Alex Peitrangelo having anger issues, torts is the epitimy of "ima take this pen and ram it up your ass!!!" Exteemely hilarious coach

  3. Before you say Torts is the bad guy instead of Wes McCauley, look into Wes' background. Hes a terrible person and makes calls based on things outside of the game.

  4. I like a tough coach as much as the next guy but Torts calling out his players to the media is not a leader that deserves respect. He has been living off 1 stanley cup he won the year before the lockout when 41 goals won you the rocket. Torts should have been forgotten about the same time as Babcock. Players today dont respond to coaches like that anymore.

Edit: but I will always root for Torts in his battles with Larry Brooks. I can't stand Larry Brooks

  5. as a flyers fan i’m glad some of these players got some experience with him. i think he has some serious knowledge for michkov, even if it didn’t last and it was obviously time. it did do some damage i agree but i feel like some players needed him in the locker room (travis konecny)

  6. Torts is a classic. Brooks was just trying to piss him off to stay relevant and didn't respect his criteria. If someone says they're not going to talk about something, and then he disregards that, it's completely the idiots fault for probing him further.

  7. That attitude is just archaic and doesn’t work anymore. I’ve worked with guys who act like him and it’s really annoying. Old guys who think the world should stop for them

  8. Torts is a coach I feel like if a player buys into his system you would want to run through a brick wall. I love Torts. Wish Buffalo would bring him in to work as an operations guy.

  9. I think the thing with Tortorella is you can only get so far with a motivational strategy based on threats, fear and shame. For a year or so? Yeah, okay, maybe. But beyond that, things start falling apart and you lose player's willingness to buy in and give the benefit of the doubt or to engage with you in good faith. Which is when the wheels start to come off and the team falls apart. Especially since turning players against each other like this means they can't rely on each other, and eventually that resentment builds and gets turned either against each other, which is bad for on-ice performance, or they band together against you, which is also bad for on-ice performance if you're the one that's supposed to be calling the shots

  10. Coaching in the NHL seems like a tough gig; so many coaches will take over a struggling team, coach them through a deep playoff run, or even just salvage a bad season to get into a wildcard slot … and then get fired a season and a half later when the team slumps.

I think it shows that strategies are dynamic, and teams change, tweak, and fine-tune their play over time – and the teams' rosters change too so they're coaching different teams aaginst different teams over the seasons.

  11. Torts is poor NHL coach. When things don't go right, he always blames the players publicly, never himself. But what a great gig he had for years. Get an NHL heading coaching job and contract. Gets fired and collects his contract. Goes on TV., and tells people how smart he is,. Gets another NHL job,/contract/gets paid/gets TV job/ get another NHL job….repeat, repeat.

  12. Torts has always seemed to me as a coach who goes to a losing team, brings them out of the basement, then moves on. He also seems to have coached the most teams in the las 20 yrs.
    I could be wrong….

  13. I feel that Torts is dialed in @ his age to the execution of excellence and as such his Style would change considerably were he to be Coaching say an Edmonton Team full of older Players, I think he is honest enough to get the most out of everyone and with Veterans everywhere he wont have to say much, they are generally quite accountable. Torts and a Goalie and its Cup Time in Alberta again and good thing its now because Wolf looks to be a Vezina candidate next year and he might soon become a horrible neighbor down south and he might punt Edmonton out of the Playoffs more than once in his career.

  14. The Tamp Bay Lightning won the cup despite Torts. He destroys star players and should never be hired again. He does have a good side to him outside the rink. He helps people in his community. But he is way too hard on his team and wears out his welcome in 2-3 years.

  15. While I’m ecstatic we fired Torts, York’s benching was 100% deserved and was 100% for on ice performance. He made one of the softer plays I’ve seen in my lifetime behind his own net that led directly to a goal. The off ice stuff only took place after the fact.

Frankly, from everything I’ve seen and heard about Cam York over the last 3 or so years, I would not be upset if he was traded this off season.
