‘Leafs have edge vs. Sens, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy’: Button on Battle of Ontario

It was a milestone night for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, with Mitch Marner hitting the 100-point plateau for the first time and Auston Matthews scoring career goal No. 400, all while Toronto secured the Atlantic Division for the first time. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joined SC with Jay Onrait to discuss what a win like this could mean for the Leafs as they head into a playoff series vs. the Senators.

  1. Toronto has the edge everywhere??
    Thats a pretty bold statement.
Ottawa has been as good as Toronto record-wise since Jan 1.
Ottawa has beaten Toronto 6 of the last 7 times.
Toronto has higher end skill on their top line, but Ottawa has a more even 4 lines.
Defence & goaltending I would say are pretty equal.
This should go 6 or 7 games.

  2. Ullmark has owned my Leafs all season and Stolarz has struggled against the Sens. I’m afraid…VERY afraid.

  3. Stolarz is on his 5th NHL team and has never been a starting goaltender at 31 years old. I give the Net to the Sens in this series. The difference will likley be more how the Leafs play in front of the man in the net vs who it actually is.

  4. Man TSN needs to find their Biz Nasty, or Pat Macfee of TSN. Looks like a couple of corpses taking hockey. 😴

  5. Jeeze why even bother playing? Advantage everywhere? Already talking about the 2nd round….

No pressure Toronto, wouldn't want a bunch of young hungry talented players led by a Rottweiler to disrupt your parade plans.

  6. Alas another playoff season starts and my curiosity is peaked waiting for this years excuse when the Laffs lose AGAIN!!!! Just like the seasons start and end it is a given, looking forward to the Senators attempt to send the LAFFS to the links…. kind of like my most happy moment in the Playoffs…. more millions wasted, Laffs Fans scurrying around looking to place blame … Yes a most enjoyable time of year….. Laffs SC 20….67

  7. Toronto can't out skill a hard forecheck its been proven time after time, another early exit for the blue team. I can't wait for TSN to "address " all the leaf problems ie. the "core 4", or the "bore 4" as it is in the playoffs.

  8. Well if Jay and Craig eventually got to the Sens, the clip didn't make it to YouTube eh? And the Leafs and Sens are even on goaltending? Did I hear that right? How many Vezina trophies do they have…go on I'll wait…

  9. What are these two clowns talking about, the Sens have the edge over the Leafs, they beat the leafs all season…..leafs would rather play the panthers first and then the lightening, i am a leafs fan and disagree with these too guys.

  10. Who really cares what BUTTON has to say what’s his claim to fame,??? Nothing I believe I give it a toss up good luck to both teams

  11. TSN belongs in the same garbage bin as CBC one sided crap to please the lunatics liberals in Toronto. Go Sens Go.

  12. Every year since Matthews arrived, then they signed Tavs, Leafs media, the fans have boasted they are cup ready – EVERY YEAR! And every year these "experts" (really they are "yes man" for the company) say that on paper the Leafs are the one's to beat, remember "We Want Florida"? It's easy to beat this paper thin heartless team – play with heart. Hit them, they fold. Beat 'em to the puck, check them, they run. Get a lead and tighten the screws, they buckle – they rely on quick scoring spurts when the other team lets their guard down (usually when on the power play to get the p@ssy goal) – don't let your guard down and you'll beat 'em! Toronto media, can't figure this out, can't see that their best payers (are heartless softies who are OK with losing), so every year they believe they are a 3rd line center, one defenseman away, get those players then boast they are the better team.

  13. Annoying have the two broadcasting companies in Canada be based in Toronto. Craig Button just acted like this would be easy for the leafs and they have a big match up advantage. How did the season series go?

  14. I keep saying it but there is a reason why Button works for TSN and not in the NHL anymore.
Toronto’s forward group is not built for playoff hockey.
I would take Ottawa’a top 4 defense over Toronto’s and goaltending is equal
But keep gaslighting the Toronto fan base so you’ll get more clicks when you have to make the ‘what went wrong’ videos in a few weeks.

  15. Keep underestimating the sens at your own risk, we're used to it. Just don't go crying if the Leafs get knocked out round 1, it won't be that surprising.
