The reason the Leafs are for real this year is very simple. Watch the 2024-04-15 Kyler and Bourne. Listen to the Valiquette segment on cup winners and defensive stats. The difference this year is the Leafs have a top goalie (#1 save percentage in the NHL after last night’s win) and are playing elite top 4 defense against the rush. Add to that elite offensive scoring and that’s what wins in the playoffs. Especially the defense and goaltending which Leafs have lacked the past 8 seasons. Winning the Atlantic is a more impressive accomplishment than winning a division with two of the very worst teams in hockey. The Leafs have the second best winning percentage in the NHL since Feb 1. Last 15 games played? Tied for #1. This is how you want to play going into the playoffs.
Leafs pundits like Steve have had it wrong all along. It wasn’t a humiliation kink. It was building a team that can play defense when it matters. It is hard to score in the playoffs. You know what’s harder? Scoring against elite goaltenders and defensive teams in the playoffs. That’s why Leafs struggled to score and win in the playoffs. Now Toronto has flipped the script. They are the elite defensive team with elite goaltending. This is how you win the cup. Leafs have the two of the 6 best scoring right wings in the game. Auston Matthews and Tavares are both top line talent centers in terms of points. Knies is a top line scoring LW in the NHL. The Leafs second line with McMann on it has more than 100 goals—more than any top line in the NHL I can identify (other than loading up Oilers centers). People doubting the Leafs this year aren’t paying attention to what wins. They could still lose but this is the recipe for winning the cup and going far in the playoffs.
All this positive talk and Fordward looking wonderful rainbows is giving me PTSD from your previous years. I hope the narrative is different this time. Will it?

Last season, Leafs won way too many close ones that could’ve gone the other way. This season many wins were unconvincing as well, but they do finally look like they are in control down the stretch, which is what you want to be. There’s hope. Final 4 is possible.

My biggest concern about stolars is those rebounds. Those are bread and butter opportunities in the playoffs. Other than that this is the first year we're going into a playoffs with steady goaltending. Say what you want about the scoring but the leafs weren't getting the timely saves in past playoffs either.
The one thing that the leafs consistently do is get outworked in the playoffs. They have had more skill than all the teams that they've played in years past but cannot get over the hump because of how hard they work. Ottawa is a team that works hard and hits everything in sight. I think on paper the leafs are the best team they've had in a long time, but being division champs doesn't mean anything in the playoffs. And I think Steve may be getting a bit ahead of himself saying he's looking at the whole eastern conference and liking what he sees. Leafs need to win game 1, not look at game 7. They need to work harder then the Sens, and tbh that's something I don't see happening.
Domi should beat up Turtle Brady in the first 10 mins, just to set the tone.

Honestly, 100 points cool, 1st in the division great.. but the thing that actually catches my eye about this season is the fact that our FIRST YEAR coach Craig berube is literally the second coach in leafs history to coach the team to 50 wins, also got most road wins in leafs history for 1 season, 2 best record in leafs history and best shooting percentage out of any leafs season and this was all done in his first year 🤔
Oh also marner is clearly his #1 and he literally lead the team this year…. to bad he's going to lose his #1 guy, the guy he can depend on in any situation, the guy that leads the team and has talent and heart… the guy that just hit 100 points and was the best player on the leafs this year, yup we are talking mitch marner, because he is definitely walking out when FA starts and it's because of trash talking fans and media like Steve dangle, or Sid or any other scummy toronto sports reporter 😂
1st round is gonna be incredible. Every series outside of kings oilers is intriguing. Battle of Ontario? Battle of Florida? Colorado Dallas? Winnepeg St. Louis? These playoffs are gonna be so much fun
