I’ve NEVER seen a penalty like this…

Facing a desperate Columbus Blue Jackets team on the brink of elimination, the Washington Capitals who rested Ovechkin today were absolutely bodied by Columbus. When Ryan Leonard was hit hard by Adam Fantilli who then scored a goal immediately after, it perfectly summed up how this game went. However, in the 3rd period after several game misconducts were handed out, one of which was to Dmitri Voronkov, he never left the bench. He doesn’t speak good English, the Columbus bench wasn’t told about and so shortly after, he was suddenly back out on the ice on a power play! When the officials finally noticed, they blew the whistle and assessed the Blue Jackets a bench minor for having an illegal player out which was one of the oddest and most hilarious sequences I’ve ever seen. Dean Evason absolutely laid into the official as it was great cinema. I cover it all more in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. Caps defense truly sucks right now. It’s been clear as day during mulitple games now. The difference between others teams with aggressive/intentional defense and the caps who seems to love to just glide backwards (not pick up their feet) while watching the opposing team head towards the goalie, is honestly so bizarre to see. You can see and feed the difference between strong D and caps sad excuse for D lately. Idk who’s making these calls, or if they’re just not listening to coaches advice, but, from the bench to the ice, the caps are so disjointed and if they don’t get it together Stanley will not be calling them. We’ll see if today is equally a sh!t show, but I hope they learned from their terrible playing yesterday.. won’t hold my breath lol they’re stressing me out. How can they be playing like this with Stanley right around the corner! I totally agree when the announcer said the players were giving Shepard no help. Honestly felt bad for the guy. Caps gotta get it together asap! Puck is LIFE!! Great video as always! Anyone know places where ppl chat hockey? Maybe discord, or fb groups? I need ppl to talk hockey with!❤🙌🏾

  2. Im glad that sillinger is getting pulled up to the pros more. He has been killing it with the monsters. I wont be surprised if him, greeves and fix get put on the roster.

  3. I was at this game as a Caps fan. All I can say is that there is something super freeing about having already clinched the East and not giving a shit that we got absolutely destroyed like that. lol

That being said, the last 20 or so games haven't looked super awesome for us. Really hope we get back on track, not that Ovi got his record, so we can do something in the Playoffs. …especially (assuming nothing wild happens) we'll be playing the Habs. We don't have a great record against them in the playoffs.

  4. overreacting to this game, Washington was missing 6 starters and playing their AHL BACKUP GOALIE!! they also had 0 effort in this game

  5. Not only does he not speak English but his number is 10 so when the ref told him he had a ten minute, he probably was assuming the ref was referring to his number and not the length of the penalty 😂

  6. Now I'm not a fan of either team here, but that goal should have still been allowed. The referees are considered "in play" so if the puck hits them it is still a live puck. Just a thought. (not that they needed it anyways)

  7. Okay, I'm seeing a lot of blame being put on the on-ice officials (the "refs") for this. Let's go over the protocol here:

The PA announcement (including the mic'd ref announcement) is purely for the fans and media. It is neither required nor a factor in penalty reporting. All calls, including penalties, are reported directly to the scorekeeper before the referee even touches his mic. The scorekeeper then relays penalty information to the penalty box attendant, whose job it is to RECORD every penalty, including who serves it and when. When the wrong player – or, in this case, no player – goes to the box to serve it, they are supposed to immediately notify the scorekeeper, who then signals the refs (usually by that loud horn we've all heard) to stop them from conducting the face-off until the problem is resolved.

Another commenter stated that he was at the game, and actually saw Voronkov's penalty listed "on the apps". I'm not sure exactly what apps he's talking about, but the point is, the penalty was a known thing. The only way this happens is if the the ref reported the the penalty to the scorekeeper. Therefore, the ref DID report the penalty. After that, it's the job of the off-ice officials – including the scorekeeper and penalty box attendant – to ensure justice is served.

What likely went wrong here? Either the scorekeeper failed to notify the penalty box attendant of the penalty, or the penalty box attendant failed to realize he was missing an inmate.

Leave the refs out of this. Blaming them is like blaming a street cop for a prison break.

  8. Minnesota Wild fan here. You Blue Jackets fans have a great head coach in Dean Evason. I was pissed when the Wild fired him, because he took the fall for a team in a slump at the time. Evason will get Columbus over the hump of being an average team. I hope Blue Jackets management knows to leave well enough alone for at least a few seasons to see what they can accomplish.

  9. the goalie might have been absolutely alone on an island out there but i always appreciate the FLOW peakin from a tendies mask is just fantastic aesthetic.
