It has happened. RG Media is reporting Ivan Demidov is set to join the Montreal Canadiens for the stretch drive and into the NHL playoffs this season. Shaun Starr and Marco D’Amico recorded this on Tuesday at 12:54PM with the reaction

    Official statement from SKA:

    "SKA and Ivan Demidov have made a joint decision that the forward will join the Montreal Canadiens already this season. SKA will retain his KHL rights. If Demidov is unable to secure a spot in the NHL, he will return to St. Petersburg."

    I've been waiting for 45 years for this…….I've asked the hockey Gods for the last 2 decades to let them tear this down, and bring a group together through the draft (as is being done, to perfection so far) with the camaraderie of growing together…..And getting a little draft luck (skilled talent scouts) with knowledge aforethought……I AM A CANADIENS FAN and my age doesn't matter, but seeing this formula of skill coming together is very reminiscent of my younger years (born in '66) when we had (the second last) 4 cup repeat winners…….We have just solidified "in the mix" for the next 15-20 years….And dare I say, within 2 years (salary cap problems not include…lol) we will be among the teams of cup favorites….Right when the Lightning and Leafs start to get older…..Welcome to the N.H.L. Ivan, and welcome to the greatest franchise, in every aspect, in "The Game" that we all love……Knock their (hockey) socks off "Vanya"!!!!

    I certain they must have paid off the team but keeping it a secret.If they did pay that is not a good precedent but he positive is we got Demidov here to play some games to become climatized to the NHL game.They better get Arber in the lineup because he will be a target.
    I am 99% certain MSL does not want any player to upstage him so imo he keeps Demidov down maybe on the third line.
    IDK if fans remember some of MSL's past he basically threw a fit when he was told to play Sean Farrell and he was quick to blame Arber for a loss becuase of a penalty he is a sneaky scummy coach.
    If was up to me he gets second line for one game then I would instantly remove Slafkovsky and insert him into the first line.I do not think Slaf could elevate anyone around him so I would put him on the third line where he belongs.I would also like to see Mailloux playing but so long Laval lives not a chance of that.I do feel Laval struggles to score so don't be surprised if laval makes an early exit and Mailloux gets called up.

    Yes line disruption is a thing just look at what happened to Columbus when jenner returned from injury they basically disappeared.
    Having said that Slafkovsky has been riding the coat tails of Suzuki /Hutson and a great year from Caufield and Laine's second in the league PP goals 15.Demidov is decent yfaster MUCH more shifty and much more creative than Slafkovsky and most importantly Demidov takes puck to the net which would open up the ice for Cole and Nick.

    As an old timer, I remember when Jean Beliveau made his debut. The Canadiens of the 1950's and 1960's had some of the greatest players.

    Marty won't want to mess with a good thing, I doubt Demidov plays if the race to the last playoff spot remains close. This makes tonight's game especially important. The Habs might have a 6 point lead over Detroit, but if the Wings win tonight and win their game in hand, that lead shrinks to 2 points with 4 games to play. A win tonight would give Marty some leeway in using Demidov in a game or two, without compromising playoff chances.

    Personal opinion of course but think these lines would slap! I hate seeing Gally and Anderson on the fourth but also couldn't imagine splitting them up!

    Mtl will need to get a proper 2nd center this summer threw a trade or UFA … Newhook/Dach are not going to be able to follow him

    Holy $#@! Demidov will be here this season. But so many people told me all year no chance no chance. I said if bichkov set precedent he can come and now it's Xmas

    The first priority is to make the playoffs. Right now if we don't make the playoffs having Demidov here means nothing.

    Let me start by saying I'm not a Canadians fan but I'm super excited that Demidov is coming to the NHL. Kids is going to be a stud. If Demidov lives up to his potential Montreal will be a big threat.

    It's all about bureaucracy, why does it take 4 days to get a visa. It should take 1 hour. It's not like he is an undocumented alien. Everyone knows who he is. Stupid politics to be honest.
