Why Are The Washington Capitals So Good?

Alex Ovechkin passed Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history this week… obviously. The next obvious question is, how did this team go from a fringe playoff team to a contender seemingly overnight?

Thank you so much for watching!
I don’t know who actually reads this deep into the description but I appreciate you more than most for actually doing that. You’re just hella academic and one could say you’re a bit of a book worm.

  1. Thank for the midnight glaze on the caps. Jk I can listen to it forever been a caps fan for years now and I’ve loved what they’ve been doing year. Pls keep posting about them especially during playoffs

  2. Picking up Logan Thompson has been such a good help with us this year and strengthening our d core will help so much in playoffs

  3. It feels like the only thing caps need right now is another dexterous puck handler like Dubous – from what I've noticed, this season they waste a lot of rush chances due to sloppy passing in the neutral zone. but I think they're on the right path

also, can't wait for the Protas brothers to play together, should be a fun duo. hopefully Ilya gets in on the action during Ovi's last season

  4. Bro you might have the best hockey channel on YouTube, your vid on protas got an instant sub from me and ive been checking out every vid since. Keep up this kinda content cus your style and analysis is gold ❤

  5. Ovi's chase of the record looked impossible cuz his scoring touch was gone? What are you talking about he had 31 goals last year

  6. You didnt talk about Nic Dowd? He's probably the guy that's most worth talking about if you want to dig in and show why this team works so well. If the Selke wasn't a popularity contest and was actually voted for defensive forwards he'd win it every year. Last year to clinch the playoff berth, who stepped up in the last week to carry it? Dowd of course (along with Malenstyn and Aube-Kubel, I want them both back. Two of the fastest skaters in the NHL.)The Capitals have the best 4th line (well, really 2 guys and a guest slot) in the NHL and its a big part of why they are getting such great mileage out of these old, slow guys up front. They dont have to go out and tire themselves out because Dowd is taking all the D-zone draws and doing the grunt work so they can get in when its time to shoot.

Pinholes Graham did an excellent video about him and I am now personally offended that Dowd hasnt had his 5 rightful Selke trophies delivered to him that were given to someone else after the vote was incorrectly tallied.

  7. Honestly, good for them. They found a way to retool around their aging legend and make one last run at a championship. Can’t say the same about my team. 😒

  8. As a Caps fan, this makes me happy. Don’t forget that the Caps sold at the deadline last year and the year before. Letting the young guys play and bringing Carbs (former Hershey coach) back has been tremendous. Pronunciations could use some work, but a great video nonetheless!

  9. uploading this when folks are sleeping is wild lol. I think the most note worthy thing this Caps team has done is single-handedly saved PLD's career. Bro was actively losing the bust allegations before being traded to the Caps and folks where ready to write him off but now he's thriving

  10. Can you breakdown how BOs, VAN, and NYR fell off a cliff this season? How did NSH win the off season but lose the reg season in such horrific fashion?

  11. Ryan Leonard is a great fit for the Capitals' system, he's a high energy forechecker, similar to bigger guys like Protas, Wilson, and Dubois. Ivan Miroshnichenko feels a bit of the same, just without the offensive ability of a top 6 forward like Leonard.

Andrew Cristall is very different from Leonard and Miroshnichehnko. He seems a lot more like Ovechkin – he's not a good skater, not a good defender, but he's got great instincts in the offensive zone and he's a great shooter. Do you agree that he's also a good fit for the system?

How do they integrate these three guys into the roster next season?

Cole Hutson definitely has the willingness to step in on the rush, so he'll be a good fit when the Capitals have to move Sandin or Fehervary to make room for him (because they're not moving Chychrun).

What about Leon Muggli though? Is he a good fit for the system? Or will he end up never really fitting in with the Capitals? Or is he not really a NHL caliber prospect?

What about Vinnie Iorio and Ryan Chesley? When TVR leaves after next season, are either of those guys a good fit to step in as the 3RD?

What about guys like Terik Parascak, Ilya Protas, Eriks Mateiko, and Patrick Thomas? Are they good fits for the system? How do they fit in?

Will Hendrix Lapierre need to be traded? Are his struggles because he doesn't fit the Capitals' system? I've wanted them to move him to wing because he seems more comfortable bringing the puck up the edges of the ice instead of going down the middle. But I think he might just not be a good fit for the system.

  12. Really hope Protas can come back at 100% for the playoffs. His pace (especially at his size) is key to that second line progressing through the NZ cleanly. As you mentioned, Dubois…isn't great at that particular part of the game.
