Does anyone believe Scott arniel will be lifting a Stanley cup ever?
Chipman can change his mind, of course, but… signing key players, improving the culture with coach changes, fixing special teams, vying for the President's Cup… those ARE the things which – in a sane world – would translate into job security for a GM. Maybe the question isn't a fan favorite, "How can you keep the GM if they don't win the Stanley Cup?", but a more reasonable, "Is another GM necessary to take the team from this level of success to that greater level of success?" I think the answer is no, and that – despite recent playoff issues – a GM switch is not the missing tweak. The necessary tweaks would continue to exist at systems level, which is a coaching thing (and hopefully the team's performance during the season continues into the playoffs). Fundamentally, I do not think a GM should be turfed because they bet on player "A" for a 3rd pairing D and maybe should have went for player "B" or "C"… let's have some perspective – We're not talking about tearing a hole in the time-space continuum here!
