I would sign Knies first. Tavares is a very good player but it is difficult to believe he scores at the same rate in 2027-2028, the last year of the Leafs' Cup window. Certainly Tavares will not aid in the rebuild. Knies is likely to be a premier power forward.
A complete lack of foresight by past regimes now means Toronto has to choose who they sign. Tavares must give a discount or move on . I don't think Marner will be back at $14 million plus. No team can carry this core 5 and make it work. Knies will get offered 9.2 mill.
Should be Knies first.
They have to keep big money aside to resign Laughton after next season.
5.5 million a year for 4 years. that's team friendly and him owing us for the last contract he DID NOT LIVE UP TOO.

JT is a class guy, "hand over the captaincy?"…."sure i get it, it's ok ".$6M x 4 yrs….i think thats the vicinity where it ends up……i did not like the original signing, feeling it was too much, but he turned out to be classy through and through, and a solid guy for the Leafs…..i hope a fair deal can be arrived at.

Johnny is a very healthy team player who cares about the fans. I say $4,500,000 for 6 years. The fans will love him forever.
JT will plays his heart out until the Olympics next year. I do question how much left in the tank he will have afterwards. I still think JT's deal should be heavily discounted.
If Marner wants to go to GA then I would sign Knies before him but I would wait for JT until we know if he's staying or not. JT wouldn't run to another team on July 1st. He'll wait. He gets it.

JT #91 has had an exceptional season! A no-brainer, to re-sign him for, 2-3 years at 4-6 mil per? Can play 2nd or 3rd line Center position, next Fall. Johnny should still be wearing the "C"? Papi #34 not ready. Knies #23, a POWER forward too say the least, a must re-sign! Mitchy #16 performance in the Playoffs will determine whether or not, he is a Leaf next year and into the future! Tre, has lots to consider? GO LEAFS GO !!!!
