Rinzel’s Upside, Korchinski’s Healthy Scratch and More…

On the latest episode of the Blackhawks Breakaway Podcast, Pat Boyle and Charlie Roumeliotis break down Chicago’s 3-2 shootout loss to Colorado. They discuss why Connor Bedard took the defensive zone faceoff in the final minute of regulation, the potential of the Sam Rinzel–Alex Vlasic pairing, and Ilya Mikheyev’s emergence as a penalty-kill threat. They also highlight Oliver Moore’s speed and debate whether Kevin Korchinski being a healthy scratch is a big deal. The episode wraps up with a preview of Friday’s game against Washington, as Alex Ovechkin closes in on Wayne Gretzky’s all-time NHL goals record.

  1. "Not trying to dog Seth" after making a clearly pointed comment about his lack of commitment. We got the better side of trade guys, I guarantee you he is happier now, its time for us to move on too.

  2. Good bit on Murphy. He solid 5 or 6 on a lot of teams. I surprised he never moved. Have to imagine Davidson got some inquiries.

  3. Murphy seems like a real good guy. I think if you get a chance to move him this off-season you do it. Let him finally play in the playoffs. Vlasic is the new leader on the backend.

  4. I agree with Charlie regarding rushing Rinzel just to give fans something to cheer about. Thats a stupid move.

  5. Bedard should not have been on the ice let alone take that draw. Yes let’s follow what Jeremy Colliton did! Try to win the game not give Bedard confidence! That’s BS! You think losing that draw cleanly helped Bedard’s confidence? Charlie you’re way off on this take.

  6. Korchinski should not be in the NHL. They foolishly kept him in the NHL last season for no good reason. He should have been playing in juniors last season. Del Mastro is clearly a more NHL ready defenseman than Korchinski and it’s not really close.

  7. Del Mastro is more NHL ready then Korchinski right now. Delmastro is a totally different type of defenseman. Korchinski has a higher offensive upside, and a higher overall ceiling than Delmastro. Let Del Mastro play for a year until Korchinski catches and passes him on the depth chart. Delmastro is nothing more than a sixth or seventh defenseman and Nolan Allen will replace Del Mastro.

  8. Kaiser plus/minus, his blocked shots, and his skating ability. He passes the puck out of his zone better than Delmastro or Crevier or Alan. His clean passes out of zone lead to offensive opportunities. He even hits for a smaller guy because he can catch opposing players better. His takeaways vs giveaways are better than Crev/EDM/Allen. He’s gotten the memo this last couple of months and has activated offensively and it’s working. Crevier, EDM, norAllen have the full set of skills to match Kaiser at NHL level.
