@Montreal Canadiens

I still can’t believe it.

The Montreal Canadiens scored three times in the third period to rally past the Philadelphia Flyers for their fourth straight win, 3-2 at Bell Centre on Saturday.

Nick Suzuki had a goal and an assist, and Brendan Gallagher and Lane Hutson each scored for Montreal (37-30-9). Sam Montembeault made 21 saves.

“(Suzuki) has been so consistent all year and he’s a driving offensive player for us and he’s great in his own end too,” Hutson said. “So it’s awesome. He’s been great all year.”

The Canadiens have not lost in regulation at home in nine games (8-0-1) since Feb. 9. It was Montreal’s NHL-leading ninth third-period comeback win.

“We’re very confident, especially at home,” Suzuki said. “It’s just one goal and we’ve come back from worse so we’ve got a confident group that we can keep playing and get our chances and capitalize on them.”

The Canadiens hold the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference with 83 points, four ahead of the New York Rangers, who lost 4-0 to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

“We’ve also been in this position before and kind of let everyone get back in,” Gallagher said. “So it’s game after game. Points are so critical. You’ve got to keep the same mentality. Desperation is huge right now and that’s the way you play. Every game is important and we’re continuing to push.

“We’re having a lot of fun with it right now but our desperation level can’t drop. We can’t give them any hope.”

Ryan Poehling had a goal and an assist, and Samuel Ersson made 23 saves for Philadelphia (31-37-9), which was eliminated from playoff contention.

“You’re up by one going into the third on the road so I think that’s a good situation, I think any team would take that,” Ersson said. “So obviously it [stinks]. We couldn’t find a way to get the win.”

The Flyers had won their first three games under interim coach Brad Shaw, who took over behind the bench after John Tortorella was fired on March 27.

Poehling gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead at 4:10 of the first period when he put a backhand over Montembeault on a pass from Jakob Pelletier.

“It’s a great pass by Pelletier to get it,” Shaw said. “It’s a really outstanding pick up on the backhand, and he gets a lot on the backhand as well. The execution on that play was exactly what we talked about trying to do a little more regularly, we just couldn’t seem to do it as often as we wanted.”

  1. This is getting more and more exciting, just amazing game all around, that 0-1 wasn't reflecting how the game was. We played pretty well and the result finally came. 🎉

  2. I wonder if the boys knew that the Flyers' coach was saying he loved being a spoiler. It looks like it backfired. Oh well.

  3. I for one do not mind at all if you take on a sponsor. It's all about how you do it, what sponsor and how much freedom you have to stay creative.

10-15 seconds at the beginning of the video is not a big deal. I think most of your followers will understand.

Your content is high quality, if a sponsor helps you out and helps you make it even better, why not!

  4. Looking back at Hutson's goal, it's a very very close call, but I think that it went in because Ersson moved the net. Had he just hugged the post without moving the net, I think that shot would've hit the post. That's to me what makes that goal even crazier

  5. Leafs fan here so obviously i freaking hate the Habs. But, i would still rather have them in the playoffs than not and they are playing good hockey.

  6. Congrats on “on commence avec” before “la formation de depart”, it’s absolutely perfect. But I don’t know why, you seem to switch the Q and the Ts when you spell “ATTAQUANTS”. You actually spell “AQUATTANTS”.

  7. I have a feeling Ovy gave it all for this season, he won't have the emotions/energy left in playoffs, we are meeting the Leafs in Round 2, then carolina in East Finals, then beating the Golden knights for the Cup finals like it's 2020 all over again let's gooooo!

  8. If you watch Lane's goal in slow-motion, the Philly goalie actually pushes the net backwards, helping create more space for the puck. Lane said he waited for the goalie to go down, knowing that would create a space for him to score.

  9. Hutson's goal was nothing short of legendary. We're watching history in the making. HOF is calling Lane. Will you accept the call? GHG!

  10. O btw……. It was probably mats naslund whiskey… What's your name anyway 😂… Rich here… Italian born in Montreal (St. Leonards) … Somehow winds up in New Zealand of all places.

  11. Great as always!
Hutson should be a lock for the Calder Trophy as top rookie. He should also catch Leetch in the 2nd most all time as points by a rookie Defenseman and beat Larry Murphy’s assists record. The kid is Incredible.
Nick Suzuki is a great leader and Captain. He went to Kent Hughes on behalf of the team and asked to be kept together and given a chance to see what they could do as a group. They believe in each other. Hughes told Nick to go out and play. Since that time Nick is second in NHL scoring and the team moved up among a group of teams and has taken hod of the last and final wild card spot with a 4 point lead. Right now based on his play and importance to his team one could argue Nick should be mentioned in the conversation for the Selke trophy as the best defensive forward in the NHL. He has gone from -14 last season to Plus 16 this year in a season where he has propelled his team into the playoffs. Modeling his play after Patrice Bergeron, Nick plays against the best players of each team in the league every game. He kills penalties, and plays on the power-play. He is now being recognized as an elite player because of his play. Add to that certainly Nick is a great player but a clean player, classy and takes very few penalties. Lady Bing Trophy???? Where would the Habs be without Nick Suzuki??? Would they be currently in a playoff position? Mr. Clutch has done a huge part in getting them there. MVP? He should also be in that conversation. Go Habs Go!!!

  12. Was at the game. Bell Centre rocked. Place blew up when Gally hit #20 and Lane threaded the needle
