AK/EL, good one, in respect to the NFL, NBA, MLB, as well as the NHL (the big 4), out of all the talent acquisition as well as draft and player development the NHL (as well as MLB) has the slowest burn when it comes to seeing real time player development. In the NFL and the NBA it's more or less sink or swim to get the maximum years of a player's earning power. Even when you are talking about quarterbacks if they are drafted 1st (especially 1st) odds are extremely extremely strong they are playing. Bringing it back to the Preds and the NHL you just don't see players drafted when they are 17/18ish play in the NHL without some form of seasoning (whether that's playing in college or overseas, wherever). In Bedard's case, I agree, he's the exception not the rule, and I kind of wonder if you stuck a Bedard type kid in this organization would fans hang a full season and buy tickets and see him (PROBABLY but also what would that organization look like–I think it's a fair question) if the team was bad? So it's a simple question—can Barry Trotz retool this broken roster on the fly or was this $100 million spending spree last season a big mistake? The Chicago Blackhawks kind of went through a mini renaissance prior to getting Bedard with winning Cups with Kane, Toews, Hossa. Chicago fans are all things loyal to their teams. Anyway, my point is this is either going to be a salvageable situation with Barry Trotz and this current roster or this season will not just be an outlier. Fans may need to brace themselves here.
Best of luck to the Admirals, cool to hear that at least some parts of the organisation have a stint of success.
I agree about the “Bedard’ed”. It didn’t help that we were immediately “Celebrini’d” the very next draft. This season it now appears to be Schaefer or Misa. Next year it will be McKenna. This hype is just gonna keep going. You ladies are correct, not all first rounders are created equal. lol maybe… just maybe, the Preds can stink bad enough to get one of those “generational talents”. They sure were this year! 🤣😵
Bedard is the type of player that fans of every team will tune in to see their debut. If you have a guy where that is going on then yeah you can get hype about it. Matt Wood is doing well so far, sure, but he is not and never was someone that the entire league is talking about/anticipating, basically nobody picked out of the top 3 will generate that kind of attention
