Panthers have chosen health over all-in approach. Did the Playoff format make their decision easier?

On today’s edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) brought in Roy Bellamy(@RoyBelly) of the Dan LeBetard Show with Stugotz and The Hockey Show to discuss the weekend for the Panthers, where they controlled play in Ottawa, but unfortunately could not find the back of the net against Anton Forsberg, resulting in a 3-0 shutout. That led to the Panthers making multiple call-ups from AHL Charlotte, as a ways to get the group healthy before the playoffs start in less than two weeks. About nine players that we would predict on the lineup that faced off against Detroit would likely not be in the lineup for game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Panthers and Red Wings were scoreless after 20, but two goals against in the second period made it out of reach for a Panthers teams as depleted as they currently are. With the current playoff format, did it make the coaching staffs decision a lot easier knowing that it’ll be one of Toronto or Tampa that they’ll meet in round one? Lastly, Alexander Ovechkin broke the goal scoring record this afternoon on Long Island, the two discuss his legacy and the damage he did against the Panthers in his career, an how the Panthers tried to break a rule during the 2003 Draft. We discuss all of this and more on today’s edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.

  1. Fine by me. These guys know how to play, they've been on postseason runs, and that's what matters for this franchise right now. Not to mention, we see all the time how health can play a role in who wins come playoff time. Of course, resting now doesn't mean you're going to be free of injury when the playoffs start. Let's see if it pays off

  2. Once upon a time pre corporate sportscape, sporting events were affordable. As a Canadian I am envious of the sport event tix/food/merch DEALS that can still be found around the nba and nhl USofA arenas.

  3. indeed #HABS lifer here, post game comments after both losses to Montreal coach Maurice was VERY diplomatic with back handed compliments to the #HABS while talking about this is NOT the #PANTHERS team as you know it because of health issues.

  4. Toronto, Tampa, and Ottawa will all be equally tough. I've been wanting this since we lost Ekblad for the rest of the regular season. Two long seasons of playoff hockey– these guys need some maintenance days before we start the playoffs. Good seeing ya, Roy and Armando! I usually listen on Spotify.
