Being Realistic About The Edmonton Oilers In The 2025 Playoffs

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way, but figure I’d voice this today.

  1. You always do a marvelous job on your channel. You should enjoy life! I am 61 years old and I too want to see the Oilers win a Cup. Team chemistry is a huge part of a team's success and while I can have hope but it is unrealistic to expect them to slap together chemistry suddenly and survive even round one.

  2. Let's at least see what they put together at the end of the year. It will be a surprise either way, either good or bad.

  3. Next season, the Oilers need to be Younger, Hungrier, and more Truculent. For the last part, Kane (if he stays) and Frederic (should he re-sign) are a good first step, but more is needed (don't hate Max Jones on line 4, either), one or two more guys of that ilk. They also need younger players playing in Game 1 of the season, let them play, give them ice time, and if you need better then you upgrade at the trade deadline. There are reasons I would trade Bouchard, and "lousy defenceman" is not one of them; saving on his salary would be helpful to bringing in new faces. And, yes, I would move on from Stuart Skinner, at this point there is zero trust that he can overcome his poor play over long stretches. Above all else, the coaching staff MUST teach this team how to generate offence thru the Cycle; throw the puck in the corner, soften up the opposing D, go retrieve the puck, crash the net; lines 3 and 4 should do this 75% of the time, and lines 1 and 2 should do it 40% of the time – this is the way to teach winning hockey, playoff hockey.
