Devon Levi, Noah Östlund, Isak Rosén thriving with Rochester Americans

The Rochester Americans continue to win, led by Devon Levi, red-hot Noah Ostlund, and Isak Rosen. Sneaky Joe looks at each and how well they’ve been playing lately. What are the chances of each of the three being with the Buffalo Sabres next season? Joe believes Levi is easily the most likely, but wonders if Rosen needs to change his game to make the NHL.

  1. Devon Levi has AHL all-star written all over him.
    Not NHL. AHL is all.
He is too small to get down on his knees like NHL goalies do. Juuse Saros is the ONE exception to that rule.
All your NHL goalies are big and wide..Levi isn't.
When he gets down in his butterfly , MacDavid and Matthews and McK will eat his lunch every night. Too small.
    Next Goal prospect please….?

  2. Levi will be a AHL career ALLSTAR ,too small for the NHL .ROSEN small skilled , NHL forth liner at best ,as far as OSLUND , he looks like he could be a solid NHL player ( one more year in the AHL) .

  3. With his age and how long he’s been signed with the Sabres, I’d be worried if Ryan Johnson isn’t ready next season.

He’s about to be 24 this summer and completing his 2nd season as a Pro.

I’m more worried about Isak Rosen, but Johnson wasn’t mentioned.

  4. I hope Levi cracks this team next year… I am so done waiting for UPL to finally fully turn the corner. His numbers this year are back in line with his ECHL/AHL numbers.. and they were not that great. Last year UPL looked like he turned the corner, now we know it's the outlier. Levi should be our #1 next year.

  5. The more impressive aspect of the Amerks is how the team is assembled. Watch them and watch the Sabres. It's the AHL and the players themselves are not as talented, but the team is more balanced, particularly on the blueline. Whereas the Sabres have Dahlin, 2 guys who seem to think they are Bobby Orr, and a bunch of decent-to-fringe NHL guys, the Amerks have defined roles and play them well. With Metsa/Rathbone/Clague, then the 2 Russians and Johnson being more defensive, and then Ethan Prow is the old James Patrick type.

And that has made Levi's job there easier. A lot of AHL games are shot-fests featuring players who if they could finish, would be in the NHL. And D-men who if they were good, experienced, and ready, would probably be in the NHL. It's the reality of having way too many teams with more coming. But, before we get too excited, remember that Dustin Wolf played 3 years in the AHL. And the best goalie I have seen this year is Michael DiPietro, who is 26, has played 3 career NHL games in 6 years, and the Bruins don't seem too interested in giving him a call.

  6. Some 1st round picks don't become high impact players in NHL but their chances are good to have a good career in the league. What this team needs going forward is established in their prime players & in order to get them use your prospects to acquire them

  7. Did Krebs have to change because he didn't have the talent to score on this level?

    Or….

Did the Sabres ruine him by burying him in the bottom 6?

    IMO it's the latter.
