Crosby just made NHL history

Tonight, we witnessed Sidney Crosby make NHL history as he surpassed Wayne Gretzky to become the only player in NHL history to record 20 consecutive point per game seasons. Truly an astonishing feat that shows Crosby’s dominance from first breaking into the league to this very day at age 37. Despite the Penguins having one of their worst seasons in the Crosby era set to miss the NHL Playoffs for the 3rd straight year, it certainly hasn’t been due to the fault of their Captain Sidney Crosby. Coming into to tonights matchup against the Buffalo Sabres, he was riding an 8 game point streak and with 79 points, he needed just 1 more to record his 20th straight point per game season and officially pass Gretzky’s record at 19 seasons – a record he tied last season. While the game itself was an absolute nightmare for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Crosby did achieve something the NHL has NEVER seen before during this game. I cover that and more in todays NHL hockey video!

  1. You should do a recap (same style as the Rangers vs Devils one) for the “Fight Night” between the Islanders and Penguins in 2011

  2. The Penguins are such a crazy team. Jagr, Lemieux, and Crosby either spent their entire careers there or their best years with the team. 3 of the best scorers of all time.

  3. At this point, I feel horrible for Jarry. His mental health must be in the gutters. Not that his team is helping him much asides from Rakell and Crosby.

  4. Look at Gino sneakily on that list always in the shadow…what a shame, the guy is slender greatness in the wake of "never missed leg day's" legacy…the man's been cheated

  5. Out of respect, the Penguins should never trade Crosby. But then again, out of respect, they should trade him to a team that can win a cup.

  6. Hot take: Crosby would have as many or more goals than Ovechkin if he had not suffered career ending concussions. He had 51 goals in 09-10 season as a 23 year old, just entering his prime and had 32 goals in just 41 games the next season on pace for 60+ (as a 24 year old) until his first major concussion that ended his season. He never scored 50 again after concussions. I think he was going to score 50-60 every year like Ovechkin if his prime wasn't damaged by the concussion that started with Steckel's.

  7. God forbid a guy from Russia have all the spotlight in the nhl..this is one of the reasons the nhl bothers me.people from Canada hate when players from other countries get the spotlight

  8. As a Penguins fan, it's tough to see this. You have some players making bad decision which leads to teammates trying too much to compensate which leads to open opponents which leads to relatively easy goals. That's the bulk of it – I don't see too many disinterested players or guys half-*ssing it along for the ride. Sadly, I have been able to detect a drop in play in Crosby. I don't know if age is finally getting the best of him or if he's injured or if 20 years of injuries is catching up with him. I'm seeing him miss out on plays that he used to be able to do with relative ease. He's still a great hockey player but his mortality is showing. You just have to appreciate him while he's here. Maybe the Penguins can luck out in a few years and get Gavin McKenna or Filip Ekberg.

  9. I remember when he was first drafted he was on David letterman and apparently he would practice slap shots by hitting a puck against a dryer or washer (can't remember which) in his basement as a kid, he showed a picture of it and OMG THAT THING WAS DENTED UP SO BAD IT HARDLY LOOKED LIKE ANYTHING super genuine guy congratulations sid

  10. This is why I always get confused by people not including Crosby in their Mount Rushmore…is it because I have recency bias? It just seems like the guys from the previous generation of players haven’t accomplished as much as Crosby has when you consider the fact that Crosby is playing in an era that has lower scoring (although that maybe changing now)

  11. If Sid can do this with Pitt, why can't Bedard do it with the Blackhawks?
I applaud you Sidney. You're a real man among men.

  12. Ive been watching every single game this year. Its been tough. I was lucky to take my new fan GF to the game against Minnesota in St. Paul and we got to see MAF and the boys all at once. A good win. Sid and Geno scored. It couldn't be a better introduction to my lady. Somebody there asked me if Sid was leaving. I said "not a chance." I'm not delusional. I think Sid loves the game so much he recognizes what Lemiuex was to him entering the league. And if the opportunity presents itself, he wants to be that to the next potential pens generational player. He recognizes the lineage that he's apart of and feels obligated to continue it. Mark me if you think he changes and eventually does. I'll take it on the shins in the future if that happens

  13. I'm a Flyers fan, but this is an undeniable accomplishment. Completing it on one of the worst Pens' teams only speaks even more highly of his skill. Major props.

  14. Is this an official NHL record? If so, is it new? I have an old NHL record book from 1999 and I'm almost certain most point-per-game seasons isn't in there.

  15. I'mma make a bold prediction: As soon as Crosby retires, the Penguins will become a Cup contender.

I don't have any reasoning for it, I just think it'd be a funny twist of fate if the reason behind the Penguins' current dry era was having such a high-scoring player in the roster.
