Recap: San Diego Gulls vs Iowa Wild, 4.6

The San Diego Gulls wrapped up their weekend series in Iowa with a tough 5-1 loss to the Wild on Sunday afternoon. Despite generating 32 shots on goal, the Gulls struggled to solve Iowa goaltender Samuel Hlavaj, who turned aside 31 shots and earned third-star honors. After a scoreless opening frame, Iowa broke through late in the first with a power-play goal from Graeme Clarke. The Wild added two more in the second, including Liam Öhgren’s 18th of the season and an insurance tally from Carson Lambos. San Diego’s lone goal came in the third period, when defenseman Roland McKeown buried his 14th of the year off feeds from Sasha Pastujov and Tristan Luneau. But Iowa answered with two quick strikes—one from Hunter Haight and an empty-netter from Ben Jones—to seal the victory.
