I dont think "most NHL fans would call [this] a routine net front battle". Sure some pushing and shoving, a cross check to the back, etc. but folding someone in half with crosscheck to the neck … I can't see anyone saying this shouldn't be a penalty. The only thing people will have a differing opinion on is whether this is a minor, double minor, or major or suspension worthy. Under the DoPS standard, I think a 1 game suspension is warranted.
