  1. HI I'm Brendan Shanahan, the National Hockey League's Senior Vice-President of Player Safety. On Wednesday night, an incident occurred during a game between the Maple Leafs and the Lightning. At 19:21 of the third period, Toronto forward Joffrey Lupul delivered an illegal hit to the head on Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. The video clearly shows that Hedman has his head turned to Lupul before contact.

  2. who the hell said leafs win every year? u high? all im sayin is shannahan is the most inconsistent piece of shit out there with his suspensions. but w/e he nailed this time. for once

  3. you're an idiot, he didnt try to hit him in the head headman let up on his speed and lupul miscalculated.

  4. He watched his pretty little pass and wasn't aware of his surroundings, unfortunate it was to the head though, new shitty NHL what do you expect.

  5. Hedman is 6"6 lupul knew that therefore checked "up" He was not expecting hedman to dip. At least that's how I see it. Should have been 1 game or just a talk

  6. Does matter if he was hurt or not you fucking dummys it's still a hit to the head. Just like in the nfl if you hit someone head on, injury or not, it's still a penalty

  7. Very weak call. Should not have even been a penalty, except that hedman is about as tough as a 12 y.o. girl. Shanny showing off to the GM's …what fuckin horseshit.

  8. I think Shanahan needs a nice hit to the head. Maybe then he'll stop trying so hard to impress all the GMs and keep his pretty little salary going up. It's hockey, you could clearly see that Hedman dipped as he was getting hit and Lupul saw that he was a tall guy. Shouldn't have been a penalty, let alone a suspension. Bullshit decision from a bullshit excuse of an NHL regulator.

  9. I'm a Leaf fan. I hate the fact that Lupul got suspended for two games. It seems harsher than other suspensions for similar hits but maybe that's just my bias and lack of paying attention. I don't think Shanahan was trying to impress the GMs. He can't anyway because some think his punishments arn't hard enough but most think they're too hard. I think many GMs will be unimpressed with two games…will think it's too harsh.

  10. Hits like that should result in suspensions whether they cause injury or not… I like Lupul as a player, but there's no room in hockey for cheap play like this.

  11. If he had avoided hitting him he would have picked up the puck. If he got what he wanted, he would have knocked that fucker out. I've played for 20 years and tell you there are 4 different ways to knock him on his ass without tryin to elbow him instead. Not the first time Lupul tried to take a fuckers head off.

  12. Dude, was that even necessary? Let's see you get up from something like that.

And for the record, if you were to get in a fist fight with Hedman, I'd be putting my money on Hedman.

  13. The rules are pretty clear that it is the player delivering the check to ensure that the point of contact is not the head. Comments about height difference in the players, or the lack of intention on Lupul's part or that he has no reputation as 'dirty' do not come in to play here.

  14. Dirty hit, might have not been intentional but still right call by Shanaban, hits like this need to be cut from hockey and only way to do so is give bigger penaltys, if the penaltys would be shorter every team would throw one dirty hitter to ice and tell them to take out opponents star player.

  15. @DoinThupidThings Fat? Hedman was in top 3 on every draft combine test, Swedes are actually one of the most classy players out there and no matter how much i wanna hate them i can't

  16. Is that why Sweden has 2 Olympic Golds and 8 World Championship golds while Finland only have 2 world championship golds through ALL history?

  17. God Damn hockey players are starting to be a bunch of dress wearing bitches. what happen to real hockey. that wouldnt even have a second look in old time hockey how the game should be played. we pay out the fuckers millions upon millions of dollars to watch the dance around the hockey rick like a bunch of figure skaters. its suppose to be a contact sport.so all you whining bitches should go take up butterfly hunting instead of hockey

  18. watch the video again dude it was not a cheap shot by any streach of the imagination do you even play hockey my guess is no

  19. Agreed kurt… looks like hedman slows down…so his shoulder hasnt arrived to lupuls shoulder his face is there still

  20. idk if you play hockey but IMO i'm not sure bigger penalties are gonna make dirty hits vanish from hockey. The speed of the game is just too fast, you're right in the sense that it is protecting star players but there's only so many suspensions that the actual intent was to take someone's head off.. Lupul isn't a goon and im sure this will happen again with non-dirty players, it may not have been cleanest but if you look at the aggressiveness of the hit it wasn't as bad as most other suspensions

  21. @pepc72 I would like to point out that these are TSN color commentators and don't work for the leafs…

  22. tsn announcers? huh……………everybody knows tsn stands for 'toronto sports network' ………….please

  23. There are so many standards with this hit to the head bullshit, that literally none of it is making sense.
Rick Nash goes in for a malicious blindside hit, which incidentally makes contact with the head, and he doesn't get a single game. Lupul gets two games on what is really just a hockey play with an unfortunate ending.

What a fucking joke this league is. Worst officiating of any major sport, bar none. Even when reviewing replay they can't get it right..

  24. Lupul gets suspended for a check from the side–albeit a high hit & we all knew the suspension was coming, but Nash blatantly leaves his feet, gets his stick up & checks Kopecky in the back of the fucking neck & gets nothing…? What a fucking JOKE.

  25. no it stands for The Sports Network, I don't know what you're whining about, they weren't biased there at all…

  26. @vinforthewin1….hahaha…..the sports network?…….hahaha……u must be from toronto…….so humourless and so naive…..so cute…..having never been exposed to nhl caliber hockey i have to express my condolences…..thank you toronto for making the rest of us feel so much more cultured and just damn lucky…….gohabsgo………1967 hahaha………….12 hahaha………..number 25 is near gohabsgo

  27. @dylancarrigan99………….wtf?…………..the past………..we re 2nd in the east!………hahaha……..and since u won your last stanley cup we ve won like 12 cups…………we re still the last canadian team to win the cup…..its called tradition..and pride…..hard concepts for a torontonian to understand…cause if i m living in the past…you re living in hell…toronto…hahaha….36 years and counting…you suck!

  28. Wait, so literally the exact same concept… you call tradition/pride, but in Toronto it's called "sucking".
Your last cup was in what, '93?
You're generalizing Torontonians based on absolutely nothing but fallacious argument, the lowest level of intelligence in debate. Congrats.

    What the fuck………. is with………. your use………… of punctuation…………

  29. Wouldn't call it totally intentional, but at least 1 game smack in the wrist is fair. Plus, I don't think he's a dirty player at all.
