An almost unfathomable number of goals, yet here you are with The Great One. One more until you can call the record your own, O!

  1. I think he'll get to 1000 goals. he still has to break the record for most fifty goal seasons. why not add two more? hell, he might even get the most pro goals all time with 1073.
    he beat the great one.
    he can do anything.

  4. This is so emotional for me. It’s all started in 2005 when I had to emigrate from Poland to the UK. I loved international hockey, watched championships featuring Poland, and was a huge fan of the NHL, but I didn't have my own team. Then came the draft in which the Capitals selected Ovechkin. From that year, when I left, I started staying up all night to watch Washington Capitals games.

When I returned to Poland in 2013, I came back with Ovi in my heart. To this day, I think I’ve watched 800-900 games. Due to the time difference between Europe and the US, it wasn’t easy. The seasons kept coming, incredible goals were scored, and there were heartbreaking disappointments in the playoffs. I'll never forget the series against Montreal when the Caps led 3-1, only to lose 4-3. There were more series like that – I lived through Ovi’s entire career: season after season, more and more goals, and more playoff heartbreak.

Then came 2018, when I literally cried as Ovi lifted the Cup. After so many years, I finally managed to fly to Washington, watched a practice in Arlington, and then saw a game against the Winnipeg Jets. That was when Ovi celebrated his 700th goal in the league.

Last night, I shed a tear again. Tying Wayne’s record – again in the middle of the night – was something I experienced all over again.

Thank you, Ovi, for 20 years of your career, your incredible games, and your goals. Thank you, Washington Capitals!!!

    Greetings from Poland!!! 🇵🇱

    Let’s go Caps! ❤️

    Let’s go Ovi!! 🚨🚨🚨

  5. I love his devotion to one team which he brought to the Cup, it’s a great player. It’s a great moment and this hockey era will be called by his name! My deepest congratulations to you, Alex, thank you for all these years with us, all these years with hockey!

  6. Absolutely surreal. I was convinced the record would never be broken, even coming out of the lockout which ended the dead puck and trap era, but for a player to do it in the "modern" NHL, with the speed/size and skill of the players and goalies today is mind blowing. He's the greatest goal scorer ever. Hardly a "one trick pony" as the naysayers love to say. Really happy for the Caps, their fans and for Ovi and his family. Wonderful moment for the game and sort of a storybook ending as the Crosby and Ovi era winds to a close. I'm a Wings fan but I will be pulling for the Caps to win the cup this year, the record and another cup, what a season that would be. Scoring 40+ at 39 in the modern NHL is insane. The Great 8 indeed.

  7. Holy freaking crap never thought I’d see this in my lifetime the biggest biggest congratulations Alex Ovechkin lots and lots of love from Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  8. Congrats to Ovi, coming from a life long Sabres fan here! Always a pleasure to watch 8 play, if anyone was gonna beat Gretzkys record…glad it was Ovi!

  9. Congrats to Ovi and Capitals, it’s been amazing to have him stay in DC is entire career and reach this milestone.
One thing though, when was the last time we saw Ovi without a hat or helmet?
