The San Diego Gulls couldn’t hold off a late-game surge from the Abbotsford Canucks, falling 6-3 at Pechanga Arena on Wednesday night. The Gulls took a 3-2 lead into the third period after goals from Stian Solberg, Judd Caulfield, and Justin Bailey, but Abbotsford responded with four unanswered goals in the final frame. Kirill Kudryavtsev tied the game early in the third, followed by tallies from Akito Hirose and Max Sasson before Arshdeep Bains sealed the victory with an empty-netter. San Diego outshot Abbotsford 26-23 and capitalized on the power play with a goal from Bailey, but the Canucks’ efficient offense proved too much to overcome. Ville Husso made 17 saves in net for the Gulls, while Nikita Tolopilo stopped 23 of 26 shots for Abbotsford.
