Jarry is the man! Sully knows exactly what he is doing with this team. The baby Pens are starting to get past the fledgling stage and now he has the chess pieces he needs. Best coach in NHL is showing his true quality.
I dont believe it. I will give him credit however! Can't deny some of the save. That's the Jarry I was a huge fan of and even a supporter when I was bashed on at my job for it. Next year 100% show what Jarry we have moving forward. When Murashov comes up though bye bye Jarry.
Why isn't anyone talking about Larson..? He's better than blomqvist.
I think a line of dewar- novak- tomasino could work next year for the 3rd line.
Im probably one of the biggest Jarry fans out there, but I cant say I like the idea of running it back with the same (or at least almost the same) goalie group. How does this team really improve if there isnt an improvement at this teams biggest weakness?
As long as Jarry has that contract he will be up in the show. He can stand on his head but lets be real….the fans, and the players see one clink in the armor and the eyes will roll, heads go down, and the team will deflate and quit. DK, this goes back to one of your comments from a month ago about having a losing culture, or losing mindset, and when there's a snake in the locker room you cut its head off. As good as Jarry has been lately minus a couple games, for the franchise to move forward he has to leave. As does a few other key players that I will let others guess who, and I still say a new coach. But……I have seen this show before, and next year at this time when they are "turning the corner" but missing the playoffs, all will remain and we can say……ahhh so close, maybe next year!
Jarry is shit !! Pirate type deal !!
i wish i could have the kind of leash jarry has, in my job.
I am a Jarry supporter. Always have been. But he won't find sustainable success on this team. He needs to go somewhere less dysfunctional.
Thank you for mentioning Fleury. We often forget how he was absolute trash for a stretch there, especially after breaking his hand. He was, eating in some comically bad goals in the playoffs, so much so I was rooting for him to be replaced with Brent Johnson. He turned it around and there is no reason why Jarry can’t do the same. He must have some skill, he was pegged as Fleury’s heir-apparent before Murray came on the scene.
Don’t get your hopes up he blows it when it matters. These games don’t really matter
If Jarry keeps playing like this, it makes it easier to trade him in the off season. And bring Murashov up.
I find this funny the same people that say when Jarry plays bad it is the goalie but when Fleury played bad the defense was always blamed
Jarry playing well now is the equivalent of forwards padding their season stats with garbage time goals.
Best in his life? He's been pulled twice in 3 games.
Totally agree DK. We can start the year with a 4 goalie platoon and let play sort it out. If you have to send down Jarry or Ned again and one gets claimed, so be it, problem solved. You didn't even mention we have two more capable AHL guys with maybe NHL upside in Gauthier and Larsson too, so no matter what happens we're covered at every level.
It seems as though Jarry has made his mind up. This is what it takes to be that guy. Lets see whose body and mind is that guy. It takes a lot of determination. Let them show us what they got. Thank you DK I agree.
The main positive to this is that another team might see these recent strong performances and be willing to trade for him.
The $5.375 million/AAV Jarry makes could and should be used on improving the middle 6 or the defense.
Nedeljkovic is under contract for another year for half the price and virtually the same performance. Blomqvist and Murashov have had great success in the minors and shouldn’t be kept down in favor of banking on a Jarry career resurgence.
I disagree with the comparisons to Fleury. Fleury did have some bad stretches, but he also would go nuclear to the point where he would steal you top tier victories in the most critical situations (Detroit 2009, Washington 2017, etc). The guy is a first ballot hall of famer. Jarry has NEVER done anything close to that EVER. The Penguins haven’t won a playoff series since he was declared the starter and he is a main reason why they aren’t in a position to contend as of now.
Outside of 2 seasons he has about a .900 SV% and gives up over 3 goals per game. That is poor. It’s backup level stats for a guy who is paid like a top 10-15 goaltender.
Going into next season with the intentions of him being the starter is hope as a tactic.
DK, I've followed you back to your cub-reporter days at the PG but this is one road I cannot go down with you. Fool us once, shame on you, Tristan Jarry – but fool us for almost a decade? Tristan Jarry plays well when there is zero pressure, and with his team out of a playoff spot this year he's got these exhibition games to excel in. He blew it when they got to six points behind in the wildcard chase, and he will blow it if he ever gets to the playoffs with the Penguins again. It's definitely real, if you mean this is who he is.
No, he was never here. Mediocre, with small runs of good games. Yes, he made an All-Star game, that's ancient history, he can go!
I hope Jarry plays well enough to get something for him in a trade. I have zero confidence in him in a high pressure situation like say a playoff game. His body of work is all on tape. Tape don't lie.
