Simon Nemec is Struggling…What Should The Devils Do With Him?; Paul Cotter Set a New Hits Record

Simon Nemec is not having a good sophomore year in the NHL. The former second overall pick is making too many mistakes on the New Jersey Devils’ blue line. He was an AHL all-star this season, so he still has potential, but the team might go in a different direction come the offseason. Paul Cotter recently broke a team record in physicality. He deserves a lot more credit.

  1. Laughably bad take that the Devils wouldn't resign Nemec if he isn't traded, could he be used as a trade chip this summer quite possibly but I think Hamilton is more likely the one who gets moved than Nemec.

  2. I am not against trading him for a premiere player to boltster the 1st line. I will say that New Jersey will regret trading him away. This season for Nemec is a setback but should not write him off because of it. Defensemen take time to develop, and he will figure it out, and when he does, he is going to be a shutdown RHD. There are other players on this team who have been given far more leash than him. All players go through this. His body of work shows this is an outlier and not his norm. I think he will come in healthy next fall and be a completely different player.

  3. I don’t think you should give up on a 2OA pick so soon. He’s had a rough, rough year but how much success he’s seen in every other place he’s played (including early his rookie year last year), there’s still a lot there. The re signing of Kovacevic does make it a lot more complicated, though. Know you already addressed it and I don’t think it happens eithe, but moving Dougie would make the most sense

  4. Nemec has been playing better recently as in first Minn game. I think Nemec just needs more time to grow. He will grow, too soon to give up on him. If you trade him for a high end young scorer, I would be good with that. If not , trade Dougie in off season and let Nemec play!

  5. I'm a sharks fan, so i'd love a trade in the offseason with some picks and maybe some prospects if you guys are intrigued. But overall, I just wanted to comment to say I really enjoy your podcasting skill. You have a natural way of talking hockey and its an easy listen. Good luck in the future!
